The Basin and Range Region is a vast physiographic region covering much of the inland Western United States, a portion of Western Canada and portions of north central Mexico.

The Basin and Range Region geographical region in North America is found in eleven US states, two Canadian provinces and much of northern Mexico but primarily in the states of Chihuahua, Durango, Coahuila, Zacatecas, San Luis Potosie, Aquascaleintes, Guanajuanto, and Queretaro.

It is defined by unique basin and range topography, characterized by abrupt changes in elevation, alternating between narrow faulted mountain chains and flat arid valleys or basins. The physiography of the province is the result of tectonic extension that began around 17 million years ago in the early Miocene epoch.

Alaska occupies the northwestern portion of the North American continent and is bordered only by Canada on the east. It is one of two U.S. states not bordered by another state; Hawaii being the other. Alaska has more ocean coastline than all of the other U.S. states combined. The distance of about 500 miles of Canadian territory separates Alaska from Washington state. Alaska is thus an exclave of the United States that is part of the continental U.S. and the U.S. West Coast, but is not part of the contiguous U.S.

Alaska, as well as Hawaii are the only states, whose capital city is accessible only via ship or air, because no roads connect Juneau to the rest of the continent.

Arizona is the only state that is entirely within the Basin and Range Region. Thus, the list of mountain ranges abound and is too numerous to include at this time.

However, the state can be divided into several ecoregions.

Colorado has three Geographical Regions that are found in this state, the Basin and Range Region, the Rocky Mountains and the Great Plains.

Within Basin and Range Region region, there are found three ecoregions.

Nevada is located between the Rocky Mountains and the Pacific Coastal Mountains, and except for one small area of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, this state has only one Geographical Region within its state borders, the Basin and Range Region.

The Basin and Range Region can be subdivided into three ecoregions.

The Basin and Range Region region covers almost all of the state of New Mexico, with the exception of only a narrow strip along the easternmost area that resides in the Great Plains, and the even smaller area in northeast New Mexico that resides in the Rocky Mountain region.

Oregon is divide into two regions: (1) Pacific Coastal Ranges on the west side of the state; and (2) the Basin and Range Region on the East side of the state.

The state of Utah is nearly all in the Geographical Region of the Basin and Range Region, with a small area in the northeast portion of the state, within the Rocky Mountain region

Even so, there are four distinct ecoregions of the Basin and Range Region: Utah.
