The Columbia Plateau in Idaho is a narrow strip along the border with the state of Washington and resembles the western areas of Washington.
This ecoregion in the northernmost area is the Palouse hills, then just below are the Lower Snake and Clearwater canyons. Below the canyons are the dissected Loess upland and furthest south in this ecoregion are the Nez Pierce plains.
As recorded by the website of the Nez Pierce indigenous people, "The Nimiipuu people have always resided and subsisted on lands that included the present-day Nez Perce Reservation in north-central Idaho. Today, the Nez Perce Tribe is a federally recognized tribal nation with more than 3,500 citizens."
