The Rocky Mountains, called by many as just Rockies, are a major mountain range located in western North America. The Rocky Mountains stretch more than 3,000 miles from the northernmost part of the state of New Mexico near Albuquerque to the Bering Straight in Alaska.
The above statement varies as to what are included as part of the range of the Rockies, because some believe the Rockies do not rise any further north than British Columbia, saying "The Rockies do not extend into the Yukon or Alaska. Other mountain ranges continue beyond the Liard River, but those are not part of the Rockies, though they are part of the American Cordillera."
Too, due this same reasoning, there are some who believe the Rockies rise further south of New Mexico, in Texas and even into Mexico, but this is a subject for future research.
The last part of that statement, is why I believe that the mountain ranges above British Columbia are part of the Rocky Mountain, especially since they are all in the American Cordillera. A cordillera by definition is a chain of mountain ranges in a continuous sequence. But that is why we all have our own opinion.
However, also located within the North American Cordillera are the Pacific Coast Ranges and the Basin and Range Region, which lie farther to the west of and considered distinct from the Rocky Mountains Region. Those mountain regions extend all the way to through the cordillera from Mexico to the Bering Sea in Alaska.
I know, I am not a geographer, well at least not yet, but have been examining this subject for years and in doing so, have been recording my findings here on my website. That, methinks entitles me to my opinion on this subject.
Oh, yeah, the Rocky Mountain areas are in Red.
