The Geological Wonders Go Down Go Up
THE ENTIRE EARTH is covered with many amazing and wondrous things, so many that for some one to discover, catalogue and then include them all in a web page list could prove to be a lifetime pursuit. Actually, over the millennia, many have endeavored to compile a list of the wonders of the world. Some of these lists have include the achievement of the men of the ancient world, and others lists have been made of different regions of the earth, most of which usually include the so called grand structures of man′s creation.
However, my list of Geological Wonders is to be a different list from all of those which have come before, as the list on these pages will be a list that only includes natural geological wonders.
Geological Wonders: Types
What is a geological wonder, you may ask? Well, I say that it has to be part of the creation by God, not a work by man nor even a result of something that man has done which subsequently causes some to call a wonder. What is to be included in this list?
Currently, I am including the fourteen categories that are listed in the menu to the left on this page, which categories would each have two or three types of wonders included. However, I believe that there are many more different categories that, in the future, I could and/or may include in my list of wonders. These additional categories might include: (1) fumaroles and/or steam vents, (2) mud pots (3) travertine terraces, (3) slot canyons, (4) crystal caves, (5) fjords, (6) Karst landscapes, (8) and sand dunes. Until such time as these categories have been included in the menu list, some individual examples of the aforementioned proposed categories may already be included within the list National Parks & Monuments, and/or other pages.
As for the above list, all of the individual choices to be included in my list of natural geological wonders do not necessary include all of the location that have been called wonders by other people.
For example, the Grand Canyon National Park is definitely an inductee for my list, but Gateway Arch National Park (38.6250383, -90.1866713) is nothing more than a concrete and steel structure, which is merely another one of the works of men, all of which will be entirely ignored by this gallery.
Geological Wonders: Qualifications
First, a natural wonder is something the inspires awe and/or even wonderment. Hot springs, in my opinion is one of the natural geological wonders. However, when I say, Hot Springs, I speak not about the edifice that man builds about and around those natural hot spring waters, such as at the Quapaw Bath House at Hot Springs National Park, but instead, I speak about the underground works that cause the hot water to rise up from great depths within the earth and break the surface, often in an amazing display of geysers and other natural forms.
Second, the effects of wind, water and other natural forces upon the earth can cause some amazing natural rock formations and monuments of every type that seem to stand for eons of time, but in reality, each individual wonder is only here for a few moments (of geological time) before each and every one of these natural monuments crumble into the dirt. Examples of this are Chiricahua, Devils Tower and the Grand Canyon, all of which are within their own geological prime time.
Third, physical geological wonders, may at times include ephemeral natural phenomena such as a geyser rainbows, like the ones often seen in and around many of the geysers within Yellowstone National Park.
Fourth, the types and number of different types and number of geological wonders is in itself a wonder as there seems to be no end to this list. Therefore, his list will in all likelihood never be completed and will very likely forever be added to.
The Amazing Geological Wonders
Within the menu to the left, there are several links listed, links to information and photo galleries about the many wonders found here upon this Earth, so please feel free to explore any and/or all of these galleries.
However, throughout this website is another entire means of accessing all of these galleries, an access that comes from the Geographical Regions of the Earth. Yes, viewing the Earth′s Wonders can be done here in this gallery and/or can be accessed from the many regional galleries. (See Geographical Menu directly above the the Geological Menu.)
