The North American Geological Wonders Go Down Go Up
THE ENTIRE EARTH is covered with many amazing things, so many that for some one to list them all, it would prove to be a lifetime occupation. Actually, over the millennia, many have endeavored to compile a list of the wonders of the world. Some have include the achievement of the men of the ancient world, and others lists have been made of different regions of the earth, most of which include those grand structures of man′s creation.
However, my list of Geological Wonders is to be a different list from all of those, as the list on this page will be a list that only includes natural geological wonders.
Geological Wonders: Types
What is a geological wonder, you may ask? Well, I say that it has to be part of the creation by God, not a work by man nor even a result of something that man has done which subsequently cause a wonder. What is to be included in this list?
Currently, I believe that there are six, maybe more more types that I will include on my list, including: (1) Craters, (2) Fumaroles and/or Steam Vents, (3) Geysers, (3) Hot Springs, (4) Mudpots, (5) Travertine Terraces, (6) Monuments and some (7) National Parks.
As for the above list, those individual choices that are made to be included do not necessary include all of the location called thusly by others. For example, the Grand Canyon National Park is definitely an inductee for my list, but Gateway Arch National Park (38.6250383, -90.1866713) is nothing more than the works of men.
Geological Wonders: Qualifications
First, a natural wonder is something the inspires awe or even wonderment. Hot springs, in my opinion is one of the natural geological wonders. However, when I say, Hot Springs, I speak not about the edifice that man builds about and around those natural hot spring waters, such as at the Quapaw Bath House at Hot Springs National Park, but instead, I speak about the underground works that cause the hot water to rise up from great depths within the earth and break the surface, often in an amazing display of geysers and other natural forms.
Second, the effects of wind and water on the earth can cause some amazing natural rock Rock Spires and Outcroppings and monuments of every type that seem to stand for eons of time, but in reality are only here for a few moments before these natural monuments crumble into the dirt. Examples of this are Chiricahua, Devils Tower and the Grand Canyon.
Third, geological wonders include natural phenomena such as Geyser Rainbows, like the ones often seen in and around the geysers of Yellowstone National Park.
Fourth, the types and number of geological wonders is in itself a wonder and there seems to be no end to this number, so this list will in all likelihood never be completed and forever be added to.
