Thermopolis, a Greek word meaning Hot City is the largest town in Hot Springs County, Wyoming as well as the county seat and is named for the hot springs located there. It has a population of about 3,009 and home to numerous natural hot spring pools, in which mineral waters are heated by geothermal processes.
The town of Thermopolis lays claims the largest mineral hot spring in the world. This hot spring, named The Big Spring, is part of the Thermopolis State Park.
Dinosaur fossils were found nearby on the Warm Springs Ranch in 1993, and the Wyoming Dinosaur Center was founded soon after.
