THE GEOGRAPHICAL REGIONS
The Basin and Range Region, Alaska

The Steward Peninsula Ecoregion Go Down Go Back
Steward Peninsula
The Steward Peninsula ecoregion and the lands to the north are the only location in the United States where you can experience a twenty-four hour period of daylight. This occurs a short distance north of Nome, Alaska in the area of the Chukchi Sea and just above the Arctic Circle which is currently at about N. 66.561°. Too, in the days and weeks surrounding the 21st of December each year, the total darkness creates a surreal, otherworldly environment which is perfect for viewing the Northern Lights.
In winter, Fairbanks becomes a prime destination for viewing the Aurora Borealis, with skies illuminated by stunning displays of color.
Land of Many National Parks
Some 400 miles to the southeast of the Chukchi is Denali (63.069, -151.0063), the highest summit in North America and the only mountain in the United States that exceeds 6000 meters. Also, this huge mountain is surrounded by a massive national park of the same name, and this park is replete with glaciers, grizzly bears and moose.
Glacier Bay National Park is a natural wonder, featuring massive glaciers that calve into the sea, creating thunderous icefalls.
Land of Many Natural Wonders
Alaska's cruises are world-renowned, offering breathtaking views of fjords, wildlife, and remote villages like Ketchikan and Juneau. Known as the Salmon Capital of the World, Alaska is a dream for anglers, with rivers and oceans teeming with salmon, halibut, and trout.
Tongass National Forest, the largest in the U.S., is a lush rainforest filled with towering trees, waterfalls, and abundant wildlife. The summer Midnight Sun gives Alaskans 24 hours of daylight, offering endless opportunities for hiking, fishing, and exploring the wilderness.
The iconic Alaska Highway, stretching over 1,390 miles from British Columbia to Alaska, is one of the greatest road trip adventures in the world.
Alaska's Indigenous heritage is celebrated in every corner of the state, with totem poles, art, and cultural festivals honoring traditions thousands of years old.
Fauna:
The ocean waters surrounding Alaska are home to one of the world's most incredible migrations—humpback whales travel thousands of miles to feed here every summer. Alaska is home to Kodiak bears, one of the largest bear species in the world, which can weigh over 1,500 pounds!

First Migration (The Algonquian Cultures)
Joktan′s Journey On describes how after leaving Mesopotamia and migrating north by east to the Bering Sea, Joktan, his sons and his grandsons crossed the land bridge onto what was unbeknownst to them at the time, a new continent. Not long after arriving upon this new land, Joktan came to a wide river where they decided to camp. It is here when Joktan′s son Sheleph tells his father that he will not be continuing with the family from this location but will journey down river to the coast and then south along the coast to find his home.
The sons of Sheleph came to be known as the Aleut people, those of the Unangam Tunuu language whose homeland was along the Alaskan Peninsula and Aleutian Islands.
