The Chihuahuan Desert ecoregion in Texas is divided into two sub-regions, the Western subregion and the Eastern subregion. Between these two areas are the Chihuahuan Desert Mountains ecoregion of the Sierra Madre Oriental.

Other west Texas mountains include: Chalk Mountains, Christmas Mountains (5,728 feet) Mariscal Mountains, Sierra Del Caballo Muerto, Sierra Del Carman, and Sierra Larga.
