The Chihuahuan Desert ecoregion spans parts of the southwestern United States, including the states of Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas as well as northern Mexico including the states of Chihuahuau, Sonora, Coahuila, Durango, Durango as well as small areas of Nuevo Leon and Zacatecas. With an area of about 193,783 square miles (501,896 square kilometers), it is the largest hot desert in North America. However, this desert, according to the wise men of this world, is a fairly young desert existing for about 8000 years.

To the west, this desert is bordered by the
Sonoran Desert (7S), the
Colorado Plateau (7I) and the extensive
Northern Sierra Madre Occidental range.
To the east is found the
Great Plains of Texas, along with northwestern lowlands of the Northern Sierra Madre Oriental range, in
Texas (13C) and
Mexico (13E)
The Chihuahuan Desert is characterized by hot summers, mild winters, and relatively low rainfall. Still, this desert is known for its diverse flora and fauna, including a high number of cactus species.
