After leaving Ellsworth, Maine at about nine-thirty this morning, begin the final approach drive eastbound on US 1 across the remaining section of this Maine Coastal highway. Then I take a state highway (SH 189, also known as the Lubec Road) eastward towards the town of Lubec, Maine and just before arriving in town, I turn right onto South Lubec Road, which road heads directly south along the coast. When the road arrives at the West Quoddy Head (otherwise know as a cape, penninsula, point and in this case a bluff,) the road makes an eastward turn and continues right to the lighthouse parking lot.

The time upon my arrival is about half an hour after noon, and as I approach the visitor parking lot and looking down the hill to the lighthouse, I notice a sign that I am so glad to see! It informs me that because I am handicapped, I can just drive down this steep hill the roughly one hundred yards and park in the space directly in front of the ramp up to the front entrance door. Wow, am I glad that I did not have to walk this hill.

After parking in the handicap space, I get out with my phone and begin taking photos of the lighthouse from different angles. Methinks, this lighthouse is perfectly preserved and upon arriving at the entrance, there is a sign stating, "Lighthouse Closed for Restoration Work." I am disappointed to see this sign and keep my exploration to the exterior of the structure only.
