The Minnesota Lights

The Lights of Minnesota Go Down Go Back
Lake Superior
Minnesota, a state which is considered located in the mid-west area of the United States, is bordered in the east by Lake Superior. A major port in the waters of this lake is Duluth, Minnesota and has a large traffic of ships carrying iron ore from the Mesabi Range north of Duluth to other Atlantic ocean ports.
Furthest Inland Ports
A voyage from Duluth harbor to the Atlantic Ocean is a journey of about 2300 miles by way of the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence Seaway.
Minneapolis, in southern Minnesota is the head of navigation of the Mississippi River and this riverway passage traverses some 1811 miles to the Gulf of Mexico.
Lighthouses
There are eight lighthouse in Minnesota with six active lights, one that is in ruins and one that is not active but converted to a museum
The first lighthouse built in Minnesota in 1858 is the one now in ruins, the Minnesota Point light. The oldest active light is the Two Harbors Light which was first lit in 1892.
