The Geological Wonders: Hot Springs & Geysers Go Down Go Back
Hunters Hot Springs, Oregon
The Hunters Hot Spring resort was not ready for customers when I arrived because it was mostly under remodel, but should be done by the end of the year. The pool is available but the water in the pool is about bath temperature, no more than ninety degrees. The mineral baths were fiberglass tubs which had started to bloom with fiber so they were all disposed of. Apparently, the owners did not know that fiberglass can and should be periodically sealed with polyurethane.
Hunters Hot Spring:
Description:
I did get a tour of the facility and the desk clerk took me out to the cooling ponds where the source of the hot springs is located, which he said was 190° F.
Wow, that is the absolute hottest I have heard of. Hunters Hot Springs resort should pipe that water into a series of mineral pools so that people can have the opportunity to bath in several different temperatures starting at 104° and going up to about 115° or more.
I told the desk clerk that I would come back again in a few years to see how the resort is progressing.
Just north of the hot springs is a road called Geyser View road which is directly alongside the Old Perpetual Geyser, a man made geyser caused by a failed well drilling attempt.

The 2023 Journey, Oregon: Hunters Hot Spring Go Down Go Up

Awake, drive to the w-mart to get ready for the meeting later this morning. Then at fifteen minutes before ten, I connect to the Oak Harbor congregation and greet those friends who are already on the zoom connection.
Later, after the meeting ends, I pack out of the w-mart and drive east out of Klamath Falls on SH 140 to drive to Lakeview, Oregon and for me to be able to spend the last six free days camping in an Oregon state park. The drive is about a two hour drive, so at about half way, I stop at a roadside park to eat something and to dump my garbage into the receptacle here. Too, while sitting there in the driver seat, I pick up the Goose Lake state park (GLSP) brochure that I obtained while at Collier Memorial statE park and begin looking it over. On the brochure I read where it says that Goose Lake park is a seasonal park open from May to the end of September. Wow, methinks, due to that fact, I am not going to be able to camp at GLSP, so again, methinks, I will instead go the Hunter Hot Springs two miles north of Lakeview, Oregon, and if the remodel is now completed, I will get into some hot water and maybe even pay to camp there for a night. Surely, the remodel is done because both of the last two times I have been there, May of 2019 and June of 2021, it had still been "/Closed for Renovations."
I arrive at Hunters Hot Springs shortly after two this afternoon, park in the parking lot and it does not look promising. I walk up to the door and read the sign on the front door of the lodge, "Closed for Renovations."

This means that this location has now been closed for at least six years and there does not look like much progress has been done. Therefore, I am going to go ahead and rate this hot springs with an appropriate rating.

The 2021 Journey, Hunters Hot Springs Go Down Go Up
Upon my arrival, I do not drive through the hot springs gate but onto the road just north of the the property and take a photo of the geyser. From my observation, it look like not much has changed or been accomplished since my last visit, but I am not really sure. I will have to return again on another journey to find out.
