Umpqua River Light
The Upqua River Light was built at the same time as the Heceta Head Light, even from the same plans and is virtually identical to Heceta Head.
Unlike the Heceta, the Umpqua light had several advantages over the Heceta Head Light. Built 100 feet (30 m) above the river, the new light was safe from flooding. This was partly due to the Light House Board′s insistence that ships be able to plot a course based on visible lighthouses.

The 2022 Journey, Umpqua River Light Go Down Go Up

Journey On, Day 27
Umpqua Lighthouse State Park Campground, Space 43
Once my breakfast is finished, I then get caught up on my journal writing, after which I unplug the electrical and pack everything in it′s place. The at about one this afternoon, I drive out of the campground down past Lake Marie and around the curve to the lighthouse and find a parking space. I then walk into the gift shop to purchase my second cup of coffee and see that there is clam chowder on the menu so I purchase a bread bowl. The meal quite big so instead of eating all of the bread, I break off pieces and toss to the awaiting crowd of crow and jays in the trees about.
After eating, I go back inside the gift shop to purchase a ticket for the Umpqua River lighthouse tour and then sit outside to await for the tour guide to arrive. When Stu walks up, he says, Hello Thom to which I reply hello to him in return. He then begins his discourse and for the next hour, I am truly amazed by the amount of information he provides on the tour.

The 2021 Joureny, Umpqua River Light Go Down Go Up
(Day 113 TN) 54°F. 6:00 am, sunny
Jessie M. Honeyman State Park.
Exiting Honeyman campground, I again turn south on US 101 and begin the next leg of my migration south, which should not take more than three or four hours, which includes stopping for photos. The drive takes me first to Reedsport where I stop to replenish my fresh vegetables, then on to the Umpqua River lighthouse where I stop briefly to take photographs.
I notice that the lens inside the top of the lighthouse is turning and I wait for it to turn completely around but I do not see the light. Even so, I am amazed that it is still turning since it was built in 1892
