The 2025 Journey,
Lake Corpus Christi Campground

|
(Day 676 TS) 55°F. 7:30 am, sunny
Journey On, Day 140
Awake, arise, dress in my fall blues, climb forward, start the jammer and then drive out of the parking lot and to the local w-burgermart for a breakfast wrap and a cup of coffee. Afterwards, I drive to the a-mart so that I may fill my fuel tank. When I finish that, I leave out of Calallen, Texas, drive west on Northwest Blvd, which turns into FM 624 and continue to Orange, Texas, turn right SH 359 and drive to Lake Corpus Christi State Park for a hot shower. I drive into the entrance and ask for a day pass, which the ranger gives me together with a park map. I drive into the park and directly to the new shower house and find that it has been completed. I park, gather my shower bag, towel and walk into the shower house.
The water temperature in the new shower house is still only a Medium Hot water shower, therefore, despite there being a brand new shower house that replaces the old Javilin shower house. In fact, the only thing that would have changed the rating for the campground is if the
water temperature was different from the old Javilin shower house. Since the water temperature remains the same, Medium Hot Shower, therefore the rating of this park, currently a Six, remains unchanged.
Also, I have been waiting for this shower house construction to be complete for at least four or five years, which is a long time to build any structure, much less a relatively small one like a shower house. Furthermore, the old Javalina shower house was removed, I looked but did not see where it had been, and it is likely that even the foundation was removed.
Final Thoughts
During my south bound migration this year, 2025, upon arriving at this state park I choose not pay for camping, but only acquired a day pass. This is because my travel thus far this year has been extremely wet and I was more interested in getting out of the rain and humidity, as it has been raining for most all of the previous week. So, after my visit to Lake Corpus Christi state park for a hot shower, I returned to the jammer to drive for two hours and for just more than one hundred and twenty-five miles in order to arrive at the w-mart on the north loop in Laredo.

Journey On, Northbound Once Again
Today marks the beginning of a new Journey of a Thousand Days as well as the end of my winter hiatus in South Texas and the beginning of the Journey On which will start my new northbound migration for this year. And so, in keeping with my annual migration habits, I leave the current w-mart, fill up my fuel tank and take to the Texas highways heading north. My first stop, which is what I plan, is Lake Corpus Christi state park which is close to one hundred and fifty miles from my winter hiatus. So, with nothing else in my schedule, I pack out of the cafe around nine this morning to begin this Journey On, however, it is not until just after ten am when I have finished my fueling and fluid topping off.
After a long drive, I arrive at the state park, pay for one night in an electric campsite, enter the park and drive immediately to the Javelina Bathhouse so that I can get into the hot water and then put on clean clothes.
When leaving the bath house, I drive to the Opossum Bend Loop and pull into campsite number 21, where the first thing that I do is to get out my extension cord and plug in to the electric service post. Next, I tidy up my living quarters and then set my computer up to so that I can resume my journal writing and catch up with today&prim;s activities.
Some time after I arrive, I decide that I need some photos to document my sojourn here for this year

Coordinates: 28.0622719, -97.8779964
Elevation: 105 feet
Awake, dress, gather some clean clothes, my shower bag and step outside to walk to the shower house for a soak in the hot water. After my shower, I step out of the shower building and see a park ranger with cleaning tools in his hands, whom I say hello to.
We talk for a time and as always, I endeavor to steer the conversation towards the subject of reading the Bible, which Danny tells me that he only recently purchased a new Bible. I give him one of my TWJ cards and invite him to go online to visit my website, to which he says that he will.

Yesterday, I left Goliad state park to drive further south into Texas, not as far as the no-freeze zone, but far enough so as to be considered in the
Bottom of Texas.

At ten this morning, I pack out and drive on a series of highway which take me nearly due north. However, my first stop takes me west along SR 624 to Orange Grove, then northeast on SR 359 to Lake Corpus Christi state park for a much needed hot shower.

Awake, unplug, drive to Birds Nest Bathhouse and find the hot water here to be a few degrees hotter than in the one yesterday. Still, both were not steamy hot. After putting on the clean once again, I drive out of the state park, turn south on IH 37 and drive to a w-mart for a cup of hot, com and computer. Just next to the w-mart is a hg-mart where I will go later to purchase some organics.

Corpus Christi State Park

(Day
385 TB) 64°F. 6:00 am
Parking under the Oak Tree
I drive to Needville, Texas where I take SH 360 north west to US 59 and turn southwest to Beeville, Texas. After refueling, I drive south out of Beeville on US 181 to Skidmore, Texas and there turn right on SH 359 which takes me southwest, crosses IH 37 and to the park road leading to Lake Corpus Christi State Park. I drive in, get a map and check out the facilities including the temperature of the shower. When I feel that the water is steamy hot and due to the fact that overnight tent spots are just ten dollars, twenty with electric, I will keep this park in mind for future stops.
