(Day 201 TB) 57°F. 5:30 am
Overnighting in a parking lot
Elevation 5439 feet
Up before the alarm, rise and drive in search of a w-mart, finding a new one not on my GPS, but right on US 36 at Pearl street. The Front Range is so easily viewed from anywhere here in Bolder, and seem so very close and in fact they are. After all the shopping done in Denver, I still wish to find some more seaweed of the variety Dulse. I have found two packages but they are only two ounces each and wish to have at least ten ounces. While here in Boulder, I will shop in search of additional packages.
After finding a large hg-mart, I park, go in and find everything that I need, even some wants, on of which is a large container of chicken rice soup. After eating the soup, I pack everything into the jammer, first inside and lastly open up the read lift door and finish loading up my containers. Yolanda walks by and we talk, and I am able to place a Bible tract with her, calling notice to the web address on the back. After I finish packing, I drive back to the w-mart, park and take a nap. At five pm, I wake up, go inside and catch up on my journal entry.
After pounding keys for several hours, it seems like it becomes dark soon today but I know that is just an illusion because I have spent much of today grocery shopping or napping. I head back to the d-mart, park and read in the book of Psalms.
(Day 202 TB)
60°F. 5:45 am.
Overnighting in a parking lot
I wake shortly before the alarm, drive to the w-mart, park, carry my computer bag in and set it up at a corner spot, different from yesterday because this is quite the busy place in the morning, and begin pounding keys. I also checked online and found a hall nearby that has a midweek meeting Thursday evening that I hope to attend here.
After long hours and little food to eat, I pack out, drive to the d-mart and have grapes, blueberries, raisins and then read a chapter in the Bible before sleep.
(Day 203 TB)
65°F, 5:55 am.
Overnighting in a parking lot
The vacuum truck noise wakes me this morning and I rise immediately, drive to the w-mart for another day at key pounding.
At seven pm, I have finished for not with all of the web pages and begin uploading them to the web site. I stop at eight-thirty and pack out, drive to the d-mart and have something to eat. Then, I read in the Bible, after which, I close my eyes but it is still so warm that I get out my tablet and watch the June broadcast, staying up until midnight.
(Day 204 TB)
63°F, 6:00 am.
Overnighting in a parking lot
Awaken by the alarm, which had fallen down into the pantry storage box and after taking off the lid, turn it off. Then, I drive to the w-mart and begin my day of pounding keys while my tablet uploads all then new releases.
This day has proved to be one in which I have arrived at the point which I will transfer my journal writing to the new web site. So, from this day forward, methinks, my words will be found on this new version on my website.
At the end of my day of key pounding, I pack out, drive to the hall just north of town, park and get ready for the meeting tonight. The friends begin arriving soon after seven and I go in shortly after. Although a small congregation, these brothers and sisters are very friendly, greeting me warmly.
Recognizing that I am a visitor, several ask if I am moving into their area. The answer that I have been giving to the friends here on the highlands in front of and below the mountains is that this location is way too hot for me here during the summer, that I am headed up to the higher elevations to spend the summer and that I have just come down to these lower elevations for the convention. Others ask where I am from to which I reply, "I was born in New Orleans, grew up in Texas, but if you wish to know where my publishers card is, it is in Oak Harbor, Washington."
After the meeting, I return for one more night here on the highlands of Colorado, the over a mile high continental plains, but it has already been way too hot here for me to sleep comfortably at night. Tomorrow, I will climb to a higher elevation in search of cooler temperatures.
(Day 205 TB)
65°F, 7:15 am.
Overnighting in a parking lot
After another late warm night, I sleep through the alarm but when I arise, I leave this city and drive north on US 36, rising two thousand feet in elevation before stoping for coffee at a w-mart in Estes Park, Colorado. I have only been here for only two hours and already I absolutely do not like this turkey shoot, one totally packed full of turkeys. I stay long enough to finish making sure that the new website is working well and then head into the national park.
After stoping first at the visitors center, I then drive into the park and up
Trail Ridge Road stopping a only a few spots to take photographs. Upon arriving at the Alpine visitors center, I stop to see what kind of salad is available and purchase a Caesar salad for a late lunch. Then, at about four pm, I head down from the alpine to the camp at
Timber Creek campground where I take up a campsite for the evening.
The sun goes down quickly in this river valley between two high ridges and soon, I am cooking my Repast, adding a foil package of Albacore tuna. I make an extra large pot because I had offered to share with Jeremy and Delany from Maine who are in the campsite next to mine. We sit at their table to eat and afterwards, as the temperature drops rapidly, move to be near the campfire. As it becomes dark, I wash dishes, put away the kitchen and then ready for the evening.
(Day 206 TB)
39°F, 6:00 am.
Timber Creek campground, #1. CRS: 4.0
Awaken by my alarm, I arise and head for the mens room. Then, I heat water for tea, pour the hot water into my cup and then put more on for Jeremy and Delany when they get up. I sit in the jammer and work on my computer and at seven-twenty am, the sun rises above the ridgeline. I get up to check the water kettle and to make my daystart when Jeremy unzips and climbs out, soon, Delany and I tell her that I have hot water for a cup if she wants. She comes over and fills her cup. Then, they get into their car and head into the park. I pack out and head into town, Grand Lake so that I have get some change to put in an envelope for tonight′s stay.
I also stop at Columbine Lake and pull into Roberts home. They are all outside, getting ready to drive to Estes Park and Robert asks me what I am up to. I tell him that I am camping at Timber Creek and will head over to Hot Sulphur Springs tomorrow morning. After telling them bye, I drive around Columbine Lake and see a bull moose browsing on the grass in the wood. Then, I go into Grand Lake, stop at a coffee shop and upload my journal entry. Afterwards, I return into the park, stop at a picnic area to bath in the Colorado river and see a cow moose with a calf. Finally, I head back to the campsite and after checking in for another night, take a nap.
At four pm, I get up and walk down to greet Jeremy and Delany, who are packing out to leave in the morning, and talk with them for a few minutes. Then I head back to begin my evening preparations boil some water for tea, and heat the leftover Repast from last night. After eating, I climb back into the jammer, run the engine to charge batteries and pound keys on the computer. Sunset is about eight-thirty pm, and sometime after that, I shut down the engine and read for a short while before going to sleep.
(Day 207 TB)
40°F, 6:00 am.
Timbercreek campground, # 6 CRS: 4.0
Again, my alarm awakens me, I walk to the men′s room, then back to the jammer and drive out of the park. My first stop is in Grandby, Colorado for coffee, upload my journal and do my study for the meeting today. Then, I drive to Hot Sulphur Springs, stopping at the hall for the meeting and here get dressed . It is not long before the friends begin to arrive and I go in to join them. This is a small but friendly congregation and enjoy the meeting. Afterwards, I go with two other couples to the Glory Hole, a local restaurant. Finally, I head to the Pioneer Campsite and take up residence in space 8.
What I found out at the meeting is that there is a ministry meeting in the hall at 9:30 am on Wednesday and Saturday, the mid week meeting is Tuesday at 7 pm and the weekend meeting is Sunday at 10 am. Methinks that I will schedule my ministry for both days and overnight in Pioneer Park to be at each of the meetings. This will allow me to leave after the Wednesday ministry, drive to the nearest w-mart to upload journal entries and pound keys until Saturday morning for the next ministry meeting. After the ministry on Saturday, I will check for an open spot at the camp an if there is, stay the night and attend the weekend meeting in the morning. Sounds good to me, that is my story and I am sticking to it, well, I hope it is easy enough to stick to.
It is still early so I take a nap and upon rising at four something, make a couple of tuna, cheese, onion and mustard sandwiches and eat while pounding keys on the computer. At five a family pulls into the next space and begins to set up for the evening. I say hello to the man and ask where they are from. He greets me and says Oklahoma. I make a comment, jokingly insult him and then laugh saying I have family who live there. Then I walk over and say, my name is Thom, he answers, mine is Dennis, my wife is Jennifer and that is Bryce, my son. We talk and little, some about things learned in Boy Scouts. Soon, Dennis and Bryce walks out of the campsite to gather some firewood. I offer to show Bryce how to build a fire and then we begin cutting the branches to make a of four progressively larger sizes of kindling which Bryce and I build into a teepee. Then I ask Bryce if he has a match so he can light the fire and he gets a torch. Dennis helps him get the torch working and soon, the flames are over three feet high.
In no time, there is a bed of coals and out come the marshmallows to roast. Afterwards, we all walk to the river to wash all the fire building dirt and soot off. When we begin walking back to the camp, I ask Jennifer is she reads the Bible and she says, Oh, yes. She then tells me about how she stopped going to the Baptist church because no one there was able or willing to answer her questions. We continue to talk and I give a couple references to the paradise, then quote familiar scriptures, ones that she recalls, that refer to the earth becoming a paradise. She seems really interested so I tell her that I have a book that shows where one can find answers in the Bible to the most asked questions and most likely her question will be in the list. Then I ask, If I give you the book, would you read it and she immediately responds, Yes. Upon arriving back in camp, I walk to the jammer, find a copy of "What does the Bible Really Teach?" and bring it back and give it to her. She is making sandwiches and offers me something to eat but I tell her that I have already eaten. I thank her for the offer and then excuse myself to retire to my evening preparations.
I shampoo my hair, put on clean clothes and climb into the jammer. After starting the engine, I turn on the air conditioning and run it for a short time while catching up on my journal writing. Then at ten pm, I shut down the jammer, close my eyes and thank Jehovah for a wonderful day.
(Day 208 TB) 50°F. 7:09 am
Strawberry Full Moon
Summer Solstice
Pioneer Park, campsite #8.
When the alarm goes off, I turn it off and go back to sleep. Later, I rise, put a pot of water on the fire and make tea. Next, I make a cup of Daystart and sit at my table to eat. After I clean up and pack out, I walk across to the next space to say goodbye to Dennis and his family. Then, I drive east on US 40 to the w-mart in Grandby, walk into the g-mart and sit down at a table at the w-mart. Here, I first check my com, then I begin pounding keys.
After long hours, I upload the Sustenance pages to the web site. I still have more work in adding recipes but that will come soon. At eight pm, I retire to the jammer in the parking lot and climb into the back to read.
(Day 209 TB) 58°F. 6:22 am
Overnighting in a parking lot
The alarm sounds, I rise, go into the w-mart for coffee, an electric plug, and begin another day of pounding keys. Then at four pm, I leave and drive to the bank in town to get some account information and while there ask the clerk for directions to a barber. I drive back south of town, get a haircut and then head for Hot Sulphur Springs for the meeting.
Arriving early, I get dressed and soon after go inside to a much larger group that was here Sunday. I really love the way this congregation sings loudly. I meet Cory, Gordon and others. Then, I drive to Pioneer park, take a camping space, eat a can of sauerkraut, and because the evening temperatures are warm until late and need run the air conditioner for a spell, I reset my alarm to seven o&prmim;clock so I can sleep when the temperature is much cooler.
After climbing into the back, I shut down for the evening.
(Day 210 TB) 46°F. 6:30 am
Pioneer Park, site 7
I arise before the alarm to a perfect morning temperature, get out of the jammer, put a pot of water on the stove to make coffee and then give a greeting to the man in the next site. A conversation ensues and soon we are discussing Bible topics. Later, a woman walking by greets us and she too joins in the discussion.
At nine am, I excuse myself, return to the jammer, put on my ministry blues and when about to leave the campsite, walk back to where they are still discussing the last topic I brought up and greet them goodbye. Then I drive to the hall for the ministry meeting, arriving first, Gordon next, Cory, Shayley and then Rebecca. After the ministry meeting, we all work together in Cory′s car in the Grand Lake area. We drive through the village to the end of the road and stop at the parking lot which is the trail head for Angel Falls and the input to the Big Thompson tunnel built in the 1940′s which crosses under the Continental Divide and supplies the eastern cities with water.
We arrive back at the hall shortly before two pm and I drive to the w-mart in Grandby to pound keys. Then at eight pm, I pack out, walk to the jammer and see that it has been raining. This is somewhat of an oddity here in the dry area but it has cooled the temperature considerable. I put up my shades and read until I am tired.
(Day 211 TB) 49°F. 6:15 am.
Overnighting in a parking lot
Up before my alarm, walk into the w-mart, set up at a table and pound away on the keys. I upload several more recipes to the Sustenance section. In the late afternoon, I look up and see a sister, whose name is Rebecca walking up to say hello. We talk for a short time and then I return to upload the latest addition to the new web pages.
At eight-thirty pm, I pack out and head for the jammer and although it is not raining at this time, to the west the clouds are black with lightning flashes shooting in all directions. I watch the sky for a few minutes and then retire to behind the shades blocking all view of what is going on outside. I read for a while and then get horizontal by nine-thirty pm.
(Day #212 TB) 55°F. 6:55 am.
Overnighting in a parking lot
The first time I awake this morning is at 4:50 am and see light outside so I pull back the curtain and see that the sunglow is well under way. I do not rise but lie back down to sleep longer. The with bright sun coming in through the small cracks in the curtains, I arise, reposition the jammer closer to the w-mart, go in for a repeat of yesterday.
At four pm, I pack out, drive into town and stop at the bank to withdraw some money. Then, I drive to Hot Sulphur Springs, keep going through Byers canyon to check out the free campsites when you first come out of the canyon and cross the Colorado river. I was able to find them but was not impressed at all as they are really primitive, even more primitive than Pioneer Park. I decide to return to Pioneer park and take up a site for the night.
The mosquitoes are typically bad so I just take a nap and then later rise and pound on the keys until nine pm when I get out and find the air cool and comfortable. I greet the bicyclers who are tenting in site 8, I having taken site 7, and talk briefly with Mark and Matt. Then I have some seaweed to eat, share a little with Mark and Matt, then I have some water, and finally get back in the jammer to begin reading in the Bible.
(Day 213 TB) 54°F. 6:15 am
Pioneer Park, site 7
Awake this morning to a bright sun shining into the jammer. I get out my stove, boil water and make coffee and tea. The capacity of the tea pot fills both my Zeti cup and my sierra cup, so I have been making a cup of each in the morning. As I begin sipping the hot liquid, Matt climbs out of his tent and we greet. Then Mark rises and unzips and both begin making their cup of hot. Matt uses a MSR propane stove but Mark has made his own stove from a aluminum can and uses a fuel called heat, which he says is ethanol. I will goggle heat the next time I have internet access.
At eight-thirty am, I return to my jammer, get out my cup and water and take a bath. Then I begin putting on my ministry clothes. I work with Malcolm and Mary this morning and after driving to a few calls in town, we drive through Byers Canyon and then turn left into another canyon past a large lake and out into the country on gravel roads. I meet Ken and Helen who have relatives who are witnesses.
After working into the afternoon, I am dropped off back at the hall were I change out of my ministry clothes and into my summer blues. I then drive to Pioneer park, and take a nap through the afternoon heat. At six pm, when it begins to cool off, I work on the computer for a while, then study for the meeting tomorrow. Finally, I use the food processor to chop roots for a salad. Then at ten pm, I retire to the back of the jammer for the evening.
(Day 214 TB) 44°F, 5:59 am.
Pioneer Park, site 7
The sun is half a hand above the horizon upon arising and this morning is the coldest it has been since arriving here. I get out, open the rear hatch, set up for boiling water in my tea pot and soon I am back inside the jammer with the engine running, sipping on a cup of hot.
As I sit in the co-pilot seat, I see the two couples in sites eight and nine wake, unzip and climb out of their tents to begin their day. All four are female, but this is the sign of the day is it not? As the nine o′clock hour rolls around, I begin my preparations for the meeting. I shave, put on my brown suit and then head to the hall.
After the meeting, I doff my suit, don my summer blues, start the ignition and drive west on US 40 and then south on SH9, a trip that takes a little over an hour, and arrive in Silverthorn, CO. I stop first at the w-mart and upload the many changes that I have been able to make to my website and then at five, I pack out and head to the g-mart for fruit and ice, after which I head to the hg-mart for a couple of powdered items for making smoothies.
While walking through the store, I see a man dressed in a tie, taking care of an infant and think he looks like a witness. Walking through the mart, I also see a woman in a dress but she does not appear to be with the man so I do not say anything. Later, I see the two come together and converse for a moment, the the woman goes back out to shop. I approach the man and ask, "Why are you all dressed up?" to which he answers "We are Jehovah′s Witnesses and we were just at our meeting." I then reply, "Hello brother." and tell him that I left the meeting in Hot Sulphur Springs and drove here to shop for some groceries. I conversation ensues about how much Jehovah is preparing us for the Great Tribulation and soon, I have two new friends, Tim and Leslie from the Silverthorn congregation. Before we depart both give me a hug. Wow, what a wonderful brotherhood to be a part of.
Next, I begin looking for a parking space for the evening and find a No Overnight Parking sign at the hg-mart, d-mart and the g-mart, so I drive back to the w-mart and find that it does not have one. I park in the w-mart parking lot, put up the curtains and proceed with my evening routine. Finally, I reset my alarm to six am and close my eyes.
(Day 215 TB) 43°F, 5:33 am.
Overnighting in a parking lot
Up before my alarm, and arise slowly because the w-mart does not open until six am. Soon, I see the open sign lighted and I go inside for a tall blonde and a day of key pounding. I will be updating and uploading my personal journal to the
Journal Online section of the web site.
Just before eight o′clock this evening, the mart′s closing time, I pack out, walk out to the jammer and continue working until ten pm. Then I read four of five chapters in Psalms before turning off the light and closing my eyes.
(Day 216 TB) 45°F, 5:57 am.
Overnighting in a parking lot
The space where I have been parking is in the shadow and the sun is not as bright as it could be, and does not wake me up early. Still, my inner clock wakens me when it goes off, usually around six each morning. I move the jammer to the spot near the w-mart, walk in, set up my computer and then buy a cup of hot. Soon, I am sipping coffee and pounding keys.
Then, at four pm, I pack out of the w-mart, drive to the g-mart to look one more time and find the instant coffee that I have been looking for and much cheaper than the w-mart brand. Then, I head north on SH 9 to Kremmling, the east on US 40 to Hot Sulphur Springs arriving just in time to get dressed for the meeting. I am first in the parking lot and shortly after I arrive, Gordon arrives also. Soon, we are inside enjoying the meeting. Afterwards both Gordon and I head for the Pioneer Park for the night. I talk to Nate about the coming paradise but he does not want the book I offer to him.
Then, I say good night to Gordon and get into the jammer to avoid the mosquitoes.
(Day 217 TB) 53°F, 6:00 am.
Pioneer Park, site 7
Awake at the sound of the alarm but rise quite slowly, remaining in the sack for a few minutes longer. Then, I rise, get out the stove, tea pot and begin boiling water. When the water begins to boil, I pour it out into my two cups, the sierra cup for mela-tea and the Zeti-cup for the coffee. Soon, I am sipping on a cup of tea with the Zeti-cup filled with coffee, the new product I found yesterday, which is less than one fifth the price of the w-mart brand. However, the test will be in the taste and I wait for Gordon to arise and share the cup with me. Meanwhile, while I sip on my cup of tea, I also get out my computer and pound on a few keys while waiting for Gordon.
At about eight this morning, he comes over, cup in hand and after I pour half of it into his cup, we both began sipping on the coffee. He appears to like it, drinks it all and says, "I am going to the c-mart and get a refill." Methinks that for twenty cents a cup instead of a more than a dollar a cup, this new product will become a regular purchase.
We both arrive at the hall close to half an hour before the meeting begins, prepare ourselves and go inside. Cory conducts, and in attendance are Levi, Shaley, Gordon and myself. All but Shaley get into Cory′s car and then meet Shaley at the Brickhouse in Grandby where Shaley offers to drive. This is when I realize that I did not bring my wallet but I can deal with not having it for the morning. We then drive southward on East US 40 and stop in Winter Park, Colorado to begin our door to door. After working eleven three stories, a couple of us got good calls including myself. I had talked with Mikie who has family who are Jehovah′s Witnesses. When I offer the magazine, he takes it quickly and I tell him that that I will return on the same day in one or two weeks to discuss what he reads. Then by noon, Shaley needs to leave the ministry so we drive back to Grandby to get Cory′s car.
From there, the three guys want to grab a bit at the c-mart and offer to buy my something but I tell them that I don′t eat anything that they sell in that store. When they return to the car, each is carrying a packaged hot item, one a burger, another two foil wrapped burritos, the last one, two slices of pizza; and each one also has a sugary drink. I say, "See, that is what I mean, there is nothing in there that I eat." We drive north to the Grand Lake area and work near the area that we worked last week here in Grand Lake. By three o′clock, it begins to rain hard so we head back to the hall.
After changing into my summer blues, I get into the jammer and drive to Grandby, stop at the local Mexican food restaurant, bring in my tablet to begin my study for the weekend and order a plate of fish tacos. After eating, I tell the waitress that the fish was very fresh and a few minutes later, the cook come out to tell me that the fish was Tilapia. A discussion ensues and soon, I have shown him the video on Why you should Study the Bible in Spanish. I also give him my card and share some of my TWS spice mix with him. He says the spices mix smells really nice and will try it on some of his dishes.
Leaving there, I continue east on US 40 and pull into the g-mart in Fraiser where earlier I had seen sprouted pumpkin and sunflower seed with out any added salt. Because I did not have my wallet, I had told the service group that I would come back here for the weekend and purchase some. This is where I am parked now composing today′s journal entry and sipping on a bottle of coconut milk.
(Day 218 TB) 52°F. 6:00 am
Overnighting in a parking lot
Up to the alarm, rise and get dressed, then walk into the g-mart wherein is the w-mart, start with a cup and then begin key pounding.
By seven pm, I pack out of the w-mart and return to the jammer and have some fruit to eat. It has raining today, quite hard and just as uncommon for this place and this season. The world is coming onto another holiday, this one being on a Monday which only enlarges the weekend providing more time to celebrate, and most will do it outside, that is unless the rain that is falling right now continues though to the holiday.
(Day 219 TB) 57°F, 7:33 am. Light rain
Overnighting in a parking lot
The alarm wakes me but since it was late last evening before I fell asleep, I turned of the alarm and roll over. Then, upon opening my eyes, I walk through the rain, inside to the w-mart, purchase a cup of hot and then resume the pounding of keys. At two pm, I pack out and head for the bank in Grandy, deposit moneys for the jammer insurance and then head to the w-mart to make the payment and while there have a baked chicken lunch. At about five pm, with somewhat drying weather, I pack out and drive to Hot Sulphur Springs (HSS) and take up my place in campsite 7. Look to see if from here on, I use HSS to indicate when I am referring to this location, Hot Sulphur Springs.
Upon setting up camp, I open the real lift gate and while rains flows down inches from me, I stay dry while making my supper, a fruit smoothie including blackberry, blueberry, kiwi, mango, strawberry, to which I added almond flour, chia seed, coconut flakes, ground flax seed, hulled hemp hearts, and some coconut milk. It is really good, sweet and almost needs a spoon. After finishing, I put more coconut milk in the mixer bottle, shake, pour it into my cup and have a fruit flavored drink.
After eating, I turn on the inverter and continue pounding keys. At nine forty-five pm the generator comes on next door but is is a quite one so most likely it will not keep me from sleep. Soon, I am horizontal with my eyes closed.
(Day 220 TB) 59°F, 7:59 am. Light Rain
Pioneer Park, site 7.
Awaking first before six am, I wait to turn off the alarm and go back to sleep for a while longer. Upon arising, I open the rear gate and begin boiling water for hot drinks. When I have both of my cups filled, I close up the jammer to keep the mosquitoes out, climb inside and begin my journal entry.
Then at nine am, I dress for the ministry, drive to the hall and go in for the meeting. I work with Brian, his wife Michelle and their daughter Olivia. We work in Kremmling doing return visits and drive up the Gore to meet Ed. Also, when back in Kremmling, we stop and sister Nitta in room ten. As we are leaving, Kurt and Jennifer are arriving. After returning to the hall I change into my blues and drive to Grandby for the WiFi and to pound keys.
At five, Gordon calls my phone to tell me that he has a space in Pioneer park and there is room enough for me to park in the space. I tell him that I will drive there right away, start the engine and arrive there in about fifteen minutes. We sit in the jammer while the mosquitos are out but by eight, the temperature drops and so do the mosquitos and I boil a pot a water to make tea for myself and coffee for Gordon. By nine, we both retire to the backs of our vehicles for the evening. I am horizontal by nine-twenty.
(Day 221 TB) 60°F, 7:33 am. Light rain
Overnighting in a parking lot
My routine of yesterday seems to have stuck to a pattern. It is about eight while I am writing my journal entry when Gordon crawls out of the back of his truck and starts to clean up by taking a bucket bath. It is nice to be able to talk with someone, especially when that person is your spiritual brother.
We both then dress and leave for the hall, arriving as others are arriving and go in. After the meeting, we both drive to Grandby and go into the f-mart for coffee, lunch and wifi.
Later when he leaves, I drive to the w-mart and take my seat at my office and begin pounding keys.
(Day 222 TB) 51°F, 7:29 am. scattered showers
Overnighting in a parking lot
Once again, Saturdays pattern repeats so that I can sleep longer in the cool morning air. Then, I walk into the w-mart for a cup of hot and electricity. It is a busy day but I am able to find a corner and get much done. The main effort is spent on updating the digital book catalogue on the store page, bringing it up to date with the new format.
The next step in changing the website to this new format is to update episode one and that is what I am planning to do tomorrow. At eight pm, I leave the w-mart, return to the jammer and have my supper.
(Day 223 TB) 56°F, 7:01 am. clearing
Overnighting in a parking lot
The alarm wakes me but I remain in my sack for a while longer and then finally, rise, don my blues, and walk into the w-mart for a cup of hot. After many pounds of the keys, Gordon calls and tells me that he is next door and will come in to the w-mart shortly. We talk for a while and soon depart only to meet again at the midweek meeting at seven in the hall. He seems distressed about all the out of state campers in the nearby surrounds but I tell him that all the weekend warrior vacationers are only temporary in the long scope of things.
After the meeting, I tell Gordon that I am going to Pioneer park to find a place for the night and that I will see him in the morning for the ministry meeting. Then, I drive to the campsite and pull into space 6, set up camp and prepare my Repast. After eating, I finish my journal entry for the day and then get horizontal for the evening but it is quite late and besides the RV in space eight has been running his generator.
(Day 224 TB) 59°F, 7:55 am.

Up the the crack of late, put a pot of water on the stove and make some coffee. The man in space five greets me good morning and as I am making my coffee, I talk with him. It does not take too long for me to begin with the subject of the Bible and before I leave this morning, I have talked with him on several Bible topics and placed a magazine on the survival of the Bible. Then, after putting on my suit, I leave for the ministry meeting at the hall. There is enough for two car groups and I work with Gordon, Rebecca and Stephanie west of Hot Springs. Then, by one pm, we are back at the hall, and each going our own way.
I head for Grandby, drive to the w-mart and continue pounding on the keys. By eight pm, I pack out and set up for the evening in the parking lot. I have completed the first new episode using my pseudonym and set it up with a new ISBN number and Library of Congress number. I also have created an account at a on demand printer and will soon upload the first episode to that printing business.
(Day 225 TB) 51°F, 7:01 am.
Overnighting in a parking lot
Awake, rise, buy coffee, pound keys and then much later, repeat for a second cup which keeps my pounding keys into the afternoon.
It is after eight pm, I stop, pack out and retire to the jammer for the evening. I prepare a fruit smoothie to eat and then stay up to eat and read until late.
(Day 226 TB) 60°F, 7:33 am.
Overnighting in a parking lot
After repeating my morning routine of coffee, and key pounding, I finally finish proofing the first episode and upload it to the book printer. At seven thirty, Gordon comes into the w-mart and we talk for a while. He tells me that he is going to spend tonight in the parking lot. Soon, he heads out to his vehicle as I finish with the book upload.
Then at eight-thirty pm, I too, head out to the parking lot for the evening. At midnight, a police wakes me and tells me that there is no overnight parking in this lot but that I can park in the city park by the Fraser River. I drive there and go back to sleep.
(Day 227 TB) 59°F, 6:50 am.
(Day 227 TB) Overnighting in a city park
Awake, drive to the f-mart for coffee and see Gordon. We then both drive to the hall to help in the outside clean up. I work on on section of the front flower bed and pull weeds, then pull the weeds form the concrete in front of the bed and finally sweep up the dirt and debris. Afterwards, I head to the faucet and take a bucket bath, put on clean clothes and then leave for my time slot at the national park with the witnessing cart.
(b1a11-12-03a.20160709.1255) Gordon at the Rocky Mountains National Park
Arriving at the visitors center parking lot and meet Gordon for our noon to three pm shift. The two sisters there tell us that there have been a couple who have walked up and taken literature. It is a busy day for the park but in the entire three hours Gordon and I attend the witness cart, no one person stops to pick up anything. However, many do slow down, turn their heads and look at the cart. Gordon and I both comment on how we must be getting close to the beginning of the great tribulation.
(Day 228 TB) 51°F, 6:45 am.
Overnighting in a city park
Awake, put on my blues and drive to the f-mart for coffee. I sit in the jammer in front to sip coffee while updating my journal entry for yesterday and this morning. Then, I begin my study for today′s meeting and at nine this morning, drive to the hall for the meeting, where there is a small group in attendance. Afterwards, I put on my blues and drive out of town, west on US 40 through Kremmling, over the Rabbit Ears, down into Steamboat Springs and stop at the first w-mart, one which is a stand alone store with a full menu. This evening, I use one of the three free purchases that I have accumulated.
At nine something, I pack out, drive to the g-mart near by, purchase salad and dried fruit, and then park in a wooded section of the parking lot for the evening.
(Day 229 TB) 48°F, 5:58 am.
Overnighting in a parking lot
Upon awaking, I move the jammer to a spot in front of the w-mart, grab my computer bag, walk in and set up at my self chosen office window seat, purchase my cup of hot and begin pounding keys. While inside of the w-mart, I learn that Steamboat Springs is not Wayfarer friendly, in fact, the city has an ordinance against overnighting anywhere in the city and because of this, I will not return to this place ever again, except maybe for a drive through. I do stay long enough to use as many of my free purchases in the w-mart as I can and then at eight pm, I pack out and head for the pass.
I arrive at the pass at nine pm, locate an official parking area and read the signs on both side of US highway 40 which only restrict parking within ten feet of the highway. That is not a problem because the dirt parking area is forty feet wide on both sides. I take up a place in sight of the sign indicating that this is the continental divide. The sunglow is waning fast with the stars becoming brighter, but a small band on light on the horizon about a hand width seems to hang on for a little longer. Leaving my engine running to charge batteries, I update my journal entry for this afternoon. I am horizontal by a little after ten and hear the traffic through the pass continue until after ten but sometime before midnight it ends for the night.
(Day 230 TB) 39°F, 5:55 am.
Continental Divide
Elevation 9446 feet
The suntouch occurs just before I awake, shining in through the small open spaces of my curtains. The air is very cold, and rise, start the jammer to warm up, quickly put on my blues and begin driving east on US 40 to Kremmling where I stop at the Moose cafe for breakfast and to work on trying to create the correct pdf format which will receive acceptance from the online printer service. I have already created three final copies but each time I summit the book, there are still many errors that are found. What is happening though, is that I am getting better at using the pdf creation program. Each time, I learn something new about it and each time, there are fewer errors. This process is extremely time consuming, but what I am learning in this first book will make it so much easier for any additional episodes in the future.
At three pm, it becomes very hot sitting in the jammer so, I shut down the computer, turn off the inverter and then drive to Hot Sulphur Springs and stop at Pioneer park to clean up both the jammer and myself. Later in the afternoon, Gordon arrives and parks in his spot next to me and we both take a nap. At six, I rise, get dressed, and head for the meeting at the hall. Afterwards, I return to Pioneer park, meet Thomas who is a cross country bicycler, then set up for the night, make a cup of daystart and get into the jammer to eat and write today′s journal entry. It is shortly after ten when I get horizontal.
(Day 231 TB) 45°F, 6:50.
Pioneer Park, space 9
I awake twice before rising, once at dayspring and again at suntouch but both times I return for more sleep. When I get up, the air is crisp but not near so as yesterday when waking at Rabbit Ears pass. Rising, I open the tail gate and begin heating a pot of water my hot drinks, the tea pot heats water enough for both my Sierra and Yeti cups so I make tea in the Sierra and coffee in the Yeti.
As I am finishing the cup of tea, Thomas, climbs out of his tent and I greet him and endeavor to give him a witness about the Kingdom. However, he expresses to me that he is totally content in his belief that there are many ways to enlightenment and that there is good in all churches. After quoting John 14: 6 where Jesus said "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." he again strongly expresses his personal conviction about many ways to salvation. I greet him goodbye and safe travel, then retreat into the jammer and my journal writing.
At eight-thirty am, I begin getting dressed for the ministry and by nine this morning have arrived at the hall. There are five in our group, Gordon, Cory, Rebecca, Tim and myself. After doing calls in Grandby, we drive to Winter Park for calls and some house to house and finally return to the hall by three pm. After changing into my blues, I head back to Grandby, stop at the w-mart and begin pounding keys. I upload the latest pdf copy of my book and the program still finds numerous errors so I begin making corrections one by one. At ten pm, I have gone through two thirds of the corrections, saved the file and will upload it tomorrow morning. I drive to the city park and write the final entry in my journal before shutting down for the night. It is after ten pm when I get horizontal.
(Day 232 TB) 53°F, 7:42 am.
Overnighting in a city park
The sun is shinning brightly when I arise, I start the jammer, drive to the w-mart and go in for a cup of hot and my seat next to the electricity. I do sit down and begin pounding keys but the line for hot drinks is long so I will wait until it disperses.
As the day grinds into the late afternoon, I have upload three updated copies of my book and still I have not got the all go indicator. However, the errors are getting fewer and less intense with each upload. It is five-thirty pm and I am now waiting for a new upload to finish. Methinks this process is not easy and wonder how many others have such the struggle that it has been for me.
Before I left for the city park, I had purchased a sandwich in the deli at the g-mart, something quick to eat, and now, while trying to sleep and not being able due to indigestion, the realization comes to me: methinks that I have gone against my determination not to eat processed meat because of the bad effects such food has on my body. I must needs remember my discomfort this evening and instead persist with my diet.
(Day 233 TB) 51°F, 7:02 M.
Overnighting in a city park
Rising, immediately I put on my blues, drive to the w-mart for coffee, electricity and begin pounding keys. After a couple hours, I walk out to the jammer and fill my Sierra cup with my daystart.
After eating, I continue with the final upload to the online print service and finally achieve readiness for the final review prior to printing. Also, I work on the Kindle version setup but it does not look to good with the first try so I stop for the day at nine pm and head to the city park.
(Day 234 TB) 48°F, 6:00 am.
Overnighting in a city park
Awake to the sound of my alarm, lie in the sack for a few minutes and then arise. I put on my blues, brush my teeth and then drive to the f-mart for coffee. Soon after, I walk back out to the jammer, dress for the ministry and then drive to the hall for the meeting.
There are several car groups and I work with one which does calls in Hot Sulphur Springs. Afterwards, I return to the w-mart in Grandby to finish the book and then order a printed copy to proof.
(Day 235 TB) 51°F, 7:01 am.
Overnighting in a city park
Awake and drive to the f-mart for coffee and to do my study for later this morning. At eight-thirty, I walk out to the jammer and put on my suit for the meeting. Then, I drive to the hall and go inside. Afterwards, I drive back to w-mart in Grandby and pound keys.
Since the first book is complete and I a waiting for the proof to arrive, I begin working on the covers of the next six episodes. By six pm, I am done and drive to Pioneer Park to camp for the evening. I prepare my Repasts and then to avoid the mosquitoes, retreat to the co-pilot seat to eat supper and watch a video before going to sleep.
(Day 236 TB) 49°F, 6:01 am.
Pioneer Park, space 5
Upon waking, I drive out of the campsite, turn west on US 40 and drive to Kremmling, Colorado and stop at the Moose cafe for breakfast and WiFi. Of all the available locations for access to the internet, methinks this one is the best, having the fastest loads. I will most likely come here once a week as it is seventeen miles west on US 40. The w-mart in Grandy is only ten miles east on US 40 but it is often very crowded and the WiFi is much slower.
I stay at the cafe until noon when I drive to the l-mart in Kremmling to do my laundry. It is a good feeling to have all clean clothes, bedding and towels. I even clean up the jammer inside while waiting for the wash to finish. Afterwards, I continue east on US 40 and take County road 3 south alone Williams Fork, an area where I had been in the ministry with others. I had seen a lake and it had an area that looked like a camp ground so this is the destination for my detour. After a couple of dead ends, I finally come to a lakeside campsite with twenty or more spaces, many of them not being used and when checking with the attendant, he tells me that the camping is free. Then, I drive back to Pioneer Park but it is early so I leave, drive the ten miles to Grandby to buy gas for the jammer and some fresh fruit.
Finally, I drive to the Grandby city park but at ten, while watching the July JW broadcast, two police stop to tell me that I can not van park in the city of Grandby and then tells me where there are other places that it is allowed. I tell him, no problem, leave, drive to Pioneer Park and talk up my spot in space 5. It is late so I go right to sleep. It rains during the early evening but stops before midnight.
(Day 237 TB) 54°F, 7:50 am.
Buck Full Moon
Pioneer Park, space 5
I rise late this morning due to the late night and begin wiping the outside of the jammer with my number three wipe cloth. Shortly after, Denis, the man parked in space 6 steps out and I greet him, strike up a conversation and soon, we are discussing the topic of the Bible. We talk for over two hours but even though he thanks me for taking the time to discuss this topic with him, he is not interested.
After finishing my wipe down, I drive to the hot springs resort to check on the price and features to find that it is $18.50 for an entire day, it opens at eight am and closes at nine pm. The charge for a towel is $2.00 and a bottle of Aquafina bottled water (pH 5.4) is $1.00. Thus, I will bring my own water, or even an empty bottle to fill with spring water. I should even bring my pH test kit. Then, I head back to the park to clean up the inside of the jammer and afterwards, I rest inside the jammer with the air conditioner on, even take a short nap.
Finally, at six-thirty pm, I dress for the meeting, and when I begin driving through the park see Gordon in space ten so I stop and greet him. Then we both leave the campsite and head to the hall for the meeting.
After the meeting, I drive in the rain to Pioneer Park, take up my spot in space 8, change out of my suit and then climb into the jammer and while I recap the days activities in my journal, Gordon drives in and takes space seven. Soon, it begins to rain during the entire time I am pounding keys and even after as I try to sleep, but stops by ten and then the full moon rises in the east over the cottonwood trees along the river.
(Day 238 TB) 57°F, 6:50 am.
Pioneer Park, space 8
Rise, open the tail gate and put a pot of water on the stove, then I wipe down the outside of the jammer again, because driving to the hall and back to the campsite last evening left the jammer with a thick film of dirt along the bottom. By the time the wiping is complete, the water is boiling and I make a cup of tea which goes into it′s place in the jammer cup holder. Then I make a cup of coffee which I begin drinking at which time Gordon climbs out of his truck and prepares for the day. When I am done with the coffee, I reheat a cup left over from the w-mart yesterday and have my second cup of coffee, after which I begin dressing for the ministry.
Soon, both Gordon and I drive to the hall and go inside for the meeting. Gordon, myself and Rebecca in her car head for Grandby and work a section near downtown with older homes. All three of us find interest in this territory and record the names in our call back notes. At eleven-thirty am, we stop in town at a small cafe for a break and upon resuming our ministry, do some calls in Hot Sulphur Springs. Finally, we drive back to the hall and Rebecca asks me to show her my motor home. Conveniently, I had just did laundry, swept out the inside and picked up all the debris. Nevertheless, I still say, "Please excuse my messy home!" Both Rebecca and Gordon listen as I explain to them the different rooms in the jammer. Actually there is only one room, but I have the storage bins which I refer to as rooms such as kitchen, pantry, clothes closet, toiletries and etc.
After changing into my blues, I drive to Pioneer campsite and park in campsite 10, which space is entirely in the shade, but I still run the jammer engine to have the air conditioner on while I pound on the keys and eat a can of sauerkraut for my lunch, after which I take a nap. Upon waking, I resume pounding on the keys unto seven pm when I get out of the jammer and prepare my supper.
(Day #239TB) 49°F, 5:58 am.
Pioneer Park, space 10
The morning train awakes me and I rise, put on my blues and drive to the hot springs resort and wait in the jammer until it opens at eight am. At five before eight, I walk to the entrance and Brianna opens the door and lets me in. I pay the eighteen dollar for an all day pass then walk up to the top for photos of the Ute pool which has a cave but since the sun is high in the sky, it creates shadows across the water. I walk back to the front and stop at the hospitality room for a cup of coffee and then a second cup of hot tea. Then, I check with Brianna an she suggests that I come back at sunset and try taking photos then. Next, I don my swim suit an begin climbing down into one pool then amother, starting at the bottom of the hill where the water begins at the temperature of 100 degrees and continue taking steps to higher and higher pools with increasing temperatures. The Ute pool is 108-110 degrees and top pool next to the spring source is 112 degrees.
There are several baths and nineteen mineral pools, two of which are called the magnesium pools because of the high content of that mineral. At noon, I am finished my climb of the hill, and return to the shower house for a cold shower and then walk back out to the jammer for a cup of daystart. After eating, I grab a water bottle, my pH test kit and walk back up to the Ute Pool to fill the water bottle. Then I check the water for the pH and it shows that the water is alkaline at 8.5. I report the pH level to Brianna and then return to the jammer to relax for the afternoon as the sky clouds up and drops of rain begin tapping on the roof of the jammer. As I am nodding off for my nap, the thundershowers pound the roof top and lulls me sleepward.
Then, at about five pm, I open my eyes and notice that the rain has stopped, the sun is back out and it is time for me to head up to the Ute pool to get that elusive perfect shot. Too, while soaking in the waters, I make the opportunities to witness to several people, one man who says he is a person of great faith. After reasoning with him, I encourage him to go to Jehovah′s Witnesses online site. After the sun sets, I drive back to Pioneer Park and park in campsite eight, my favorite. I will not cook anything tonight, just have some fruit and spring water. I run the engine with the defroster on so as to drive my wet clothes and pound keys for a while. Then, I climb into the back of the jammer, get horizontal and read more of the Psalms.
(Day 240 TB) 52°F, 6:01 am.
Pioneer Park, space 8
After the alarm sounds, I rise, put on my blues and drive out of the campsite heading west on US 40 to the Moose cafe in Kremmling for coffee, breakfast and WiFi. I upload several files and then complete new book covers for six of the episodes.
At two pm, when the cafe closes, I drive back to Pioneer Park, take the space next to Gordon and offer to cook supper for the two of us. His reply is "I have already eaten." So, instead of cooking supper, I tidy up the jammer, after which I retire to pound keys and then read a few chapters in the Bible before retiring.
(Day 241 TB) 51°F, 6:10 am.
Pioneer Park, space 2
I rise after lying with my eyes closed for ten minutes, then don my blues and drive up county road 20 to an campsite overlooking Byers canyon below. Brian, a local brother had told me about this location when I joined his family in the ministry on day
220 TB and it has taken me three weeks to drive up here to this beautiful spot, one which methinks will be the place for amazing photos of the suntouch. I arrive here before seven with the sun above one hand in the sky, park, open the tail gate and proceed to make my morning cup of hot, first coffee, then tea and sip away while pounding on the keys, recording the moment.
At eight-thirty am, I drive back to Pioneer Park, wash up and put on my ministry clothes. Then at nine am, I drive to the hall and ready for the meeting. I work with Mike, his sister Mitzi, Gorgon, and Ryan. We do some calls first in Grandby and then head south on US 40 to Pole Creek residential area and do some door to door. After the ministry, Gordon and I stop at the Mexican restaurant for lunch after which I drive to the w-mart to upload some files. Later, I return to Pioneer Park and take up space 3 for the evening. The campsite is full of weekend warriors from Denver, a noisy group. I turn in early and read for a while before closing my eyes for the night.
(Day 242 TB) 55°F, 5:50 am.
Pioneer Park, space 3
Awake after suntouch and there is some color on the horizon, wipe the jammer down and then drive to the c-mart in town for a cup of hot, then a refill while talking to the clerk. It is amazing how much some people disclose to complete strangers, about there personal life. I waited for an opportunity to give the woman a witness but it just did not present itself. Leaving the c-mart, I drive into the canyon, stop as a shady location and do my study for the meeting later this morning. Then, I drive to the hall and pound keys until the friends begin to show up and go inside.
After the meeting, I head to the campground and relaxed for the rest of the day. At seven pm, I climbed into the jammer and read for a while.
(Day 243 TB) 51°F, 6:01 am.
Pioneer Park, space 7
I rise early and drive to Kremmling to have breakfast at the Moose. I also pound on the keys and upload web page files. When the cafe closes at two pm, I drive to the post office in Hot Sulphur Springs to see if my book has arrived. The clerk said that it has not arrive yet and I should check back tomorrow. I head for Pioneer park and take up a space with a table.
In the afternoon, a sister came walking by and greeted me. I quickly put my shirt on and got out of the jammer to say hello. Then, as I began walking back to the picnic table, I asked her if she would like a cup of tea. She asked "Are you going to have a cup?" to which I answered always. I got out my cook pot, boiled water and poured two cups of tea. She sat down and the picnic table and began sipping on the hot liquid and I retrieved my computer from inside, plugged it into the inverter and showed he what I was working on.
Later, I make my Repast for supper and after sunset, light a fire in the metal fire ring and sit on the table to enjoy the fire while look up at the starry sky.
(Day 244 TB) 56°F, 7:15 am.
Pioneer Park, space 8
Leaving out of the campsite, I drive to Grandby and stop at the midtown cafe for coffee, wifi and a place to plug in. At about ten this morning, I hear a young girl yelling to her mom from inside the bathroom, saying that she can not get out. Her mom goes to her aid but can not open the door. I walk over and try also, but the door is locked from the inside and the hinges are not showing. I think that door should have a key but after I retrieve it from waitress, I still can not get the door unlocked. So, I walk out to the jammer and grab my tool box, walk back into the cafe and begin working on the door. With the right tool, the door comes open. All is now well in the cafe.
Later, I buy a spinach salad for lunch, have another cup of hot and then upload my files to the web site. Afterwards, I head back to Hot Sulphur Springs to see if my book has arrived but when I arrive the clerk greets me with "Sorry, not today!" I then drive to Pioneer Park and find space 8 open so I pull in, park and take a nap.
At five, an older man on a bicycle rides past and then back by, so I tell him he can camp in my space because I do not set up a tent but sleep in the van. He pulls in and I find that his name is Loren, from Saint Paul, Minnesota and is riding the transamerican bicycle route, which he began on the pacific coast in Astoria, Oregon. He is riding his bike all the way to Yorktown, Virginia. At six-fifteen pm, I begin getting ready for the mid-week meeting and at fifteen minutes before the hour leave for the hall. Afterwards, I return to the campsite and find that Loren has saved the space for my return. I park, and before getting horizontal, write today′s journal entry.
(Day 245 TB) 45°F, 5:48 am.
Pioneer Park, space 8
Up before the alarm, look outside and see that Loren is up and packing out. I too begin packing out and then begin today′s journal entry. Shortly after six am, I drive out of the camp east on US 40 to the f-mart in Grandby for a cup of hot, electricity and WiFi. At three pm, Gordon comes in to access the electricity and WiFi. Once his battery is charged, he leaves. I find out that my book is being shipped by UPS and they have a hard time delivering to places like Hot Sulphur Springs. They got the package on Sunday the seventeenth and it has only gotten as close as Silverthorn, Colarado some fifty miles south. Since I found out who the carrier is, now I do not expect it for another week or so.
I work on updating the paperback book interior, finish by five pm and upload it to the on demand printer but like times past, there is need to correct errors and I am here until after eight pm before submitting it for final review. Then, I drive to Pioneer park but all the sites are occupied so I drive through Byers canyon on US 40 and stop at the river camp and park for the evening. It is at the end of even and long after ten pm when I finally get horizontal.
(Day 246 TB) 51°F, 8:01 am.
Colorado River camp
Upon arising, I see a family of four next to the river fishing and provide a morning greeting. Then, I wet my head, comb my hair, brush my teeth and drive to Kremmling and stop at the Moose cafe for coffee, a plate of food, electricity, Wifi and key pounding. One of the to do items on my list is to contact the shipping company to find my book, which I find out that the shipping company can not deliver to General Delivery at the post office and has put the delivery on hold.
Next, I call the book printer and ask them for a suggestion, to which I am told they will send and new book priority mail for me, which should arrive by Monday, August the first. With that done, it is after two pm so I leave the cafe, drive to Pioneer park and take space two, turn on the inverter and continue pounding keys.
It is not until after sunset when I climb into the horizontal and close my eyes.
(Day 247 TB) 47°F, 6:00 am.
Pioneer Park, space 2
Up to the sound of the alarm, drive to Kremmling for a cup of hot and Wifi. At eight-forty am, I drive to the ministry meeting, but no one else shows up for the ministry. Then, I drive to Grandby for access the Internet. At four-thirty pm, I drive up SH125 to Willow Creek Pass on the continental divide in hopes of seeing some moose.
After a scenic drive up to the pass, take a photo of the elevation sign I park at the Parkview Mountain trailhead and soon after, climb into the back of the jammer to read and then close my eyes.
(Day 248 TB) 47°F, 5:28 am.
Parkview Mountain Trailhead
Elevation 9683 feet
The sky is just beginning to illume, a wanning crescent moon hangs one hand above the ridge of the mountain and it is no where near as cold as I had thought that it might be this morning. Rising, I start the jammer, then get out to open the tail gate to retrieve and don my blue jeans. Soon after I am driving slowly down on the pacific side of the pass along Willow creek with one eye on the road and the other eye scanning for moose.
In no time, I spot two young
bull moose standing in Willow creek and when I stop the jammer, one runs for cover but the second moose seems to be enjoying the water plants he is eating. After grabbing my camera, I begin snapping photos, following this moose up out of the creek onto the opposite bank and downstream.
In just five minutes and after taking twenty or so photos, I look up from the camera back to where the second moose disappeared into the woods and now see him back in the creek eating the grasses growing at the edge and in the water. I begin clicking off photos of this moose, following him along the same path the first one traveled. I alternate between the two, especially when one becomes hidden in the brush until both have headed downstream behind thick brush and out of sight.
I drive down SH 125 another hundred yards and find were the two young male moose have gone to. There is a family of moose browsing in tall grass on the hillside about two hundred yards distance from my location. I stop here, turn off the jammer and take more photos. From my best estimate, there are five moose in this family, the two young bull moose that I have been photographing, two more calves, and another larger female, most likely the mother of the caves, and possibly also the mother of the two young bull moose. Since the family is at great reach, I do not take too many more photo but soon continue down the state highway.
At six-thirty, I arrive at the w-mart, purchase a cup of hot and begin pounding keys and uploading photos to the Mountain photo gallery including one photo of a moose that I took this morning. Then at nine pm, I head for a campsite.
(Day 249 TB) 58°F. 6:00 am.
(Colorado River Camp
Up at the alarm, drive to Pioneer park and make coffee, study for the meeting and then get dressed. at nine-thirty, I drive to the hall for the weekend meeting and afterwards, drive to the w-mart in Grandby to work on the Mountain photo gallery.
At eight pm, I drive to to pioneer park and occupy a space.
(Day 250 TB) 56°F, 6:00 am.
Pioneer Park, space 7
Up at the alarm and drive to Grandby, stop at Midtown cafe for coffee and continue working of the Mountain photo gallery.
At two pm, I drive the post office in Hot Sulphur Springs to see if my book has arrived. Wouldn′t you know it, the replacement book that was supposed to be here today priority mail did not come. However, the first book that was suppose to be delivered three weeks ago did arrive. I am glad that I did get this one because it represents a one of a kind because it is the first proof copy which I have since updated twice. I suspect the second proof will arrive tomorrow. Then, I drive back to Grandby, take some money out of my bank account and drive to the w-mart for some WiFi and electricity.
At seven pm, I leave and head to the campsite and upon arriving find there to be not one car camper here. There are two who arrived on bicycles and set up in space four, so I occupy space eight and then visit the two in space four. However, the mosquitoes are thick tonight and I do not set up my kitchen to cook, rather just spread peanut butter on some bread. By nine pm, it is late into the even and I decide to climb into the back and read until I get sleepy. While reading, I come across
Psalm 89:37 which is a verse that I have previously searched for so that now I may add it to The Heavens gallery in the second section called the
Faithful Witness. Of late, I have been working on uploading photos to the Mountain passage and some of it′s many galleries.

Last night was a very quite one, especially without all the noisy week-end warriors that have been frequenting this campsite. I awake at five-twenty this morning but return to the under cover for another hour before rising. After dumping my trash, I drive to the f-mart in Grandby for coffee and some key pounding. Then at three pm, I drive back to Pioneer Park to first take a nap, then a bucket shower and finally put on my meeting clothes.
At six-forty, I drive out of the campsite to the hall for the meeting. I find out that there will not be a ministry meeting tomorrow morning, so I will head to Silverthorn instead for some shopping and to go to a stand alone w-mart so that I can redeem my free purchases. After the meeting, I stop at Pioneer Park and site 4 is open, so I pull in for the night. Leaving the jammer running so that the air conditioner can cool the inside down, I also turn on the inverter to charge my batteries while pounding out words.
(Day 252 TB) 55°F, 6:00 am.
Pioneer Park, space 4
Upon awaking, I leave out of the park immediately, drive west to Kremmling on US 40, then south on SH 9 and arrive in Silverthorn before eight am, stopping first at the w-mart for a cup of hot and to upload files. Then, I work on proofing the copy I received of Episode One. At six pm, I drive to the d-mart, then the g-mart and stock up on what I can even though I am in the mountains. When the shopping is done, I head back to the w-mart to park for the evening.
It is about ten when I finally climb into the back of the jammer.
(Day 253 TB) 57°F, 6:00 am.
Overnighting in a parking lot
When I arise, I notice that there are several other overnighters in this parking lot, it being the only one that I have found in the area without signs stating "No overnight parking" posted throughout. I move to the space near the w-mart and go inside for a tall cup of blonde and begin pounding keys. Then a second cup and finally a large glass of ice water and continue working on the final proof read of my book.
At eight pm, I leave the w-mart and drive across the highway, US 6 in Dilion, Colorado to a Mexican restaurant and have a plate with grilled fish, rice, salad, hot sauce and chips, a nice meal if I may say so. Then, I drive back to the w-mart to park for the night.
(Day 254 TB) 50°F, 6:00 am.
Overnighting in a parking lot
Upon awaking, the w-mart is already busy and after I purchase my cup of hot, the mart fills up with customers. I overhear one man mention he is from Houston and I tell him that I grew up in Deer Park. He tells me that he is from Sugarland, Texas and he is here for business and golf. I then set up my computer, begin sipping coffee and pounding keys.
Shortly before eight pm, I pack out of the w-mart, walk to the jammer and while sitting in the front seat, make the decision to skip going back to Hot Sulphur Springs for the ministry meeting so that I can make and attempt of finishing the final proof of my book. Once the proof is complete, then I will upload it to the on demand printer after which, it will be available for purchase by the public.
(Day 255 TB) 52°F, 5:28 am.
Overnighting in a parking lot
Awake, walk to the rear of the jammer, open the tail gate, take a quick bucket bath and put on clean clothes. Then, I grab my computer and walk into the w-mart, purchase a cup of hot, plug in and begin pounding keys.
At three pm, I pack out of the w-mart, get into the jammer and drive north out of Dillon on SH 9, towards Kremmling, then east on US 40. I arrive back in Hot Sulphur Srings before four pm, stop at at Pioneer Park and open the back of the jammer to prepare a fruit salad to take with me to dinner at the home of Joe and Rebecca. I am just about done with the food prep when I look at the clock and see it is five minutes before the hour. I hurry and put everything on the front passenger seat and drive to Roosevelt Street to look for cars that I recognize. I have their address in a text message but figure that I do not have the time to look for the message so jut drive down the street.
In no time, I recognize Gordon′s truck and pull into the driveway, walk up to the door and say Hello, to which Joe replies, Is that Thom? I walk in and drop one container on the counter and tell them that I have to go out to get the rest. I ask Rebecca for a large bowl to mix everything in and after mixing all the ingredients put it into the refrigerator. Then, we sit around talking while Rebecca finishes preparing the supper. Soon, all four of us are having a nice supper after we have bowl of my fruit cup. Everyone loves it and has seconds.
Next, we watch the August JW broadcast, after which I go out to the jammer and return with a cobalt bottle to give to Rebecca and Joe for inviting me for the meal, association and broadcast. It has rained while in their house and now is humid outside. Leaving, I drive to Pioneer Park and take up space one.
(Day 256 TB) 54°F, 7:30 am.
Pioneer Park, space 1
Sleep in this morning, then get up to clean up the jammer, then take a bucket bath and put on my meeting clothes, after which I head to the hall for the weekend meeting. After the meeting, I say my good byes and leave Hot Sulphur Springs. I drive to Grandby, stop at the w-mart and finish my book proofing, upload the pdf to the on demand printer and there are several photos that need to be adjusted to fit the page. I choose to do that later as it is now after eight pm.
Leaving the w-mart, I drive to Willow Creek Pass and stop that the trail head for the night.

Parkview Mountain National Forest Trailhead
Overnighting at trailhead parking
Elevation 9683 feet
Up during sunglow and begin driving immediately north on SH 125, to Walton where I stop for a cup of hot to go and then continue north on SH 125 to Wyoming where the highway number changes to 230 and drive to Encampment, Wyoming on SH 70 which I take up into the Sierra Madre Mountain range to
Battle Pass, and stop to read the info boards about the
Continental Divide Trail.
After taking a few photos at the pass, I drive back down on the Atlantic side through Encampment and then north on SH230 to Saratoga, Wyoming. Once arriving in this small community, I drive directly to the
Saratoga hot springs, a free facility with three pools.
Several people climb up on the rocks next to the hot pool, put their feet in but pull them right back out, usually screaming "Ow, Ow, Ow." No one is getting in the hot pool, however, I walk over stick my feet in and see why, it is really hot. So, I get back into the main pool to warm my core a little and then try again. Now, I am able to step into the pool which is about two feet deep. I continue going back and forth from the main to the hot and on the forth try, I am able to sit down in the hot pool for five seconds. The fifth time, I stay in for fifteen seconds and the sixth time for twenty two seconds. Then, I get out take a shower in the bath house and put on my dry clothes and come back out to the hot spring.
After soaking in the hot springs, I take a fresh water hot shower. Then, upon coming back out of the shower room, I notice a hawk on top of a power pole and since I have my camera in my day pack, I get it out and begin taking photos of this hawk. Later, I identify the bird and find it to be a
Swainson′s Hawk. While I am photographing this birk, I notice a young girl and her brother who are now try getting in the hot pool.
When I arriving back at the hot pool, there is a competition going on to see who can stay in the longest, the girl makes it to one minute. Next, her brother, Shane, stays for one minute, thirty seconds. His sister, gets back in and stays for two minutes, so Shane, to beat her gets in and stays for two minutes and five seconds. At this time, the parents and grand father all agree that they do not need to get any redder and the competition is over. I talk with the grandfather and find out that he is a Vietnam veteran and offer him my card. He looks at it and the he hands it to Shane telling him "keep this for me." Then the grandfather, Jim, tells me that if I am ever in Brandon, Missouri that I should look him up. Then we all leave the hot springs to go into town looking for something to eat, myself also for access to the internet.
Here in Lollypops, not only do I get WiFi, but I am able to make the needed corrections on the book and upload it to the print on demand service. Now, I must wait again while the latest revision is reviewed by Create Space. Leaving Lollypops, I drive north on SH 130 to I70 and drive west to Rock Springs where I pull off the interstate and stop at a d-mart for the evening. I check inside for some hemp seed hearts but they do not carry any.
So I buy a bottle of sparkling water and return to the jammer and put up my shades for the evening. I also see a w-mart across the street so I will go there tomorrow to get some coffee and check the status of my book.
(Day 258 TB) 56°F. 6:00 am
Overnighting in a parking lot
Elevation 6388 feet
Upon awaking, I drive down to the w-mart, park and go in for coffee and WiFi. I make one more correction to my book and then upload it once again. Then, I drive west on IH80 and soon get off just after passing the Green River taking SR 372 north in a dry desert-like landscape to Seedskadee Wildlife Refuge.
Here I turn east on SR 28 and drive to the Green River bridge crossing where I get off of the highway and drive a short distance into the park to see the location of the old Lombard Ferry that helped many an emigrant to get to the west side of the river, first the Oregon bound wagons, then Brigham Young in 1847.
Emigrant traffic to Oregon increased to about 12,000 people crossing the Green river in 1848. Then in 1849, when gold was discovered in California, then number increased again. Then, in 1860, the Pony Express began using this same crossing of the Green River, which riders used much the same route as the Oregon Trail. There was a Pony Express station located on the west bank just south of the ferry near the confluence of the Green River with the Big Sandy River.
In 1861, the transcontinental telegraph was completed putting the Pony Express out of business. Then, in the late 1860′s, the last spike was driven in the Union Pacific railway and the ferry crossing was abandoned. This one little stop proved to be such an interesting history lesson for me. One thing that I did miss, is going over the continental divide at South Pass on SH 28 which was on the route of the emigrants, but driving that pass must needs be for another day.
Leaving Seedskadee Wildlife Refuge, I continue north on SR 372 until it meets with US 189, turn north and drive through the desert landscape for a long time following roughly the Green River up to it′s headwaters.
Soon after, I cross the
Green River again, this time at
Warren Bridge where I stop to photograph this by-passed truss bridge.
After crossing the river, I begin to climb into the Bridger-Teton national forest where the landscape changes and trees began to appear. In fact, after crossing Hoback pass and begin driving down the Hoback Wild River does the drive really become scenic, all the way to Hoback Junction. There US 189 ends when it meets with US 89 and then continues into Jackson, Wyoming, which is one city that I do not really like because it is too busy and too much of a turkey shoot.
I stop at a g-mart, park in a shady spot and pass time while waiting for the meeting to begin tonight at the hall just three blocks south of here. I do not take a nap, fearing I will sleep through the meeting but work on my journal and play solitaire until six pm when I begin getting dressed. At six-thirty pm, I drive to the hall for the midweek meeting.
There are many here that greet me with a smile, many ask where I come from and most always now, I answer New Orleans because that is where I began. When I raise my hand to answer, I am asked my name but understanding it is slow in coming as is most always. The family that sits on the same row, but opposite end look to me very familiar, so after the meeting, I walk up to the brother and ask his name. When he tells me Ray, I smile and say, "We have met before, but not in this country?" He looks at me puzzled and asks me where. I then tell him, "In Patzcuaro, Michoacán, you took me out to eat at China Now." A smile stretches across his face and the memory slowly returns. He begins to ask me questions, "Where have you been?" What have you been doing?" and we catch up. Then, I walk up to his wife Sonya and introduce myself the same way. It is always good to see the friends again, especially the ones who have served where the need is great.
Leaving the hall during the late sunglow, I drive north through town on US 89, through the Grand Teton park and then stop in the J D Rockerefeller parkway on Sandy Lake road, at the first free campsite by a small creek and park for the night. Except for the drone of generators, it is very quite here tonight.
(Day 259 TB) 44°F. 5:50 am
Overnighting at Grassy Lake Road campsite
Getting up immediately, I start the jammer, put on my blues and drive back down Grassy Lake road to US 89, turn left (north) and drive into Yellowstone, which when I arrive at the fee gate, there are no rangers here yet so I do not get a map. I continue over the three passes across the continental divide, the first pass, at 7988 feet just before Grant Village putting me on the Atlantic side, the back onto the Pacific side at the next pass 8391 feet, and finally back onto the Atlantic side at Craig Pass, elevation 8262 feet. Then, I arrive in the parking lot for the Old Faithful Inn at a few minutes after seven, go inside for coffee and electricity but by eight am, I pack up and go for the buffet breakfast, after which, I must needs walk out the the jammer to take a nap.
Upon getting up shortly after noon, I, open the windows, put up the shades, and stay in the jammer pounding keys under inverter power, charging and keeping charged all of my batteries. Buying and installing the deep cell battery and inverter was a really good idea, as it has served my well. I have been thinking of driving out to Lamar valley to try to photograph a wolf but if that happens, it will not be until later this week.
At five-thirty pm, I grab my camera and go to photograph the geyser, hoping for a rainbow and later come back to the jammer with several good photos of a rainbow. Then, I begin writing words in my journal to catch up, read a couple chapters in Psalms and when I turn off the lights, it is nearly eleven pm.
(Day 260 TB) 49°F. 6:48 am
Stealth parking
After waking up, I grab my wash cloth and go into the Inn for a shower, after which, I buy a cup of coffee and take my position at the same desk I have been sitting at for years. I suppose I have chosen this one particular desk because not only does it have an electric plug, it also has a view out a window and a good view of the tree house at the top inside the Inn. Then, my work updating my earlier chapters of this journal continues re-writing the journal and adding photos to the text.
I have seen during this visit that the hoards of flat-lander city dwellers are increasing quite a lot each time I show up here, and due to that, I have given the subject of me staying here much longer a lot of thought. Methinks, I do not want to be here during turkey season, instead, I must needs arrive during the off season in the futures. Methinks, that this may be hard to accomplish but to avoid the extreme hoards and hoards of turkeys that come here now during June through August, there needs be a new plan.
First in my new plan is to leave today, yes, leave this high place with cool weather and to drive to Oak Harbor which is another oasis of cool weather. This means that to accomplish this, I must needs cross a desert of dry heat; a stretch of heat where it is hard but hopefully not impossible for me to find a respite for comfortable sleep.
I begin my drive from Old Faithful, out of the west entrance and into Montana. First, I drive through West Yellowstone, take US 191 north and then left onto US 287 north until I arrive at Ennis, turn left on SH 287 (west) until reaching Two Bridges were I turn south on SH 41 past Beaverhead Rock and through Dillon, then west again on SH 278 over Big Hole Pass and then down into the Big Hole valley. I continue until arriving at Wisdom, Montana right at sunset and turn west on SH 43 past the Big Hole battlefield and stop for the night in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge national forest. (All of the route after Two Bridges is where Lewis and Clark journeyed in 1804.)
This first night is not too unbearably hot.
(Day 261 TB) 45°F. 7:30 am
Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest
After sleeping late this morning, I have been staying up late too many nights, I drive to the national monument (battlefield) and stop at the battlefield parking lot to use the two holer. Next, I start the stove heat water while I take a bucket bath. When the water is boiling, I prepare my customary two cup of hot drink one while I clean up the jammer and finally. Also, I take my morning supplements. Next, I drive back up the hill to the visitors center and watch the movie entitled "There is no turning back." After the video, I browse the center and drive up to Chief Joseph pass.
At the pass, I stop at the rest stop and my prepare a cup of daystart and read some about both the Lewis and Clark and the Nez Pierce journeys, both which came through this pass. From here, I turn north on US 93 and drive through the Bitterroot River valley with the very impressive Bitterroot Range marching along the route. At first, the range looked like one ridge line but as I drive north along the valley, I see huge gaps and valleys in the mountains going back for miles and wonder why the highway does not cross over in each low gap. I stop in Lolo to obtain gas, ice, vegetables and check my email before I turn west on US 12 and head up to Lolo pass. It is a long gradual climb on a circleous route, goes past a commercial hot springs and then I arrive at the visitors center on the Idaho side. Here I find out that although the road travels down into the valley and along the Lochsa River, both of the journeys left the pass and walked upon the adjacent northern ridgeline.
After purchasing a patch I drive down from the pass, along most of the ninety-nine miles of winding roads and stop at a campsite in Clearwater National Forest and here the temperature remains cool beneath the towering trees. I even light a fire in the metal pit with the abundant firewood while preparing my Repast.
(Day 262 TB) 55°F. 8:30 am
Gateway Campsite, CSR: 5.5. (N. 46.34466, W. 115.30853, Elev. 2187)
Up late again, the many late nights have begun to wear on me, and I rise, prepare a pot of hot and drink my first cup of molasses with raisins while catching up on my journal writing. When my computer battery goes critical, I stop, pack out and head to the next Nez Pierce national monument in Spaulding, Idaho, where I view the artifacts in the museum. I also meet Dave who says he has studied the Bible before but has since stopped and I encouraged him to return to his study, prayer and meditation. I showed him the new Bible study book and he asked for a copy, which I gave him the one I showed him.
Then, I drive into Lewiston, Idaho, cross the bridge over the Snake river and drive down along the river to Buffalo Eddy which is a outcrop of rocks along the river where there are petroglyph. After take a few photos, I drive back into Clarkston, Washington, and stop in the w-mart for some ice water, an electric plug and WiFi. Afterwards, I drive to the d-mart for hemp hearts and a couple other items. Then, I find a place in the parking lot and shut down for the night however, it is much too hot here, well into the nineties and way too hot for me to sleep. So, I start the jammer and drive out of town on US 12 west up over the high plateau and stop at the first rest stop where the temperature is much lower, park, then get out to feel the air and decide to stay here tonight.
(Day 263 TB) 60°F. 5:30 am
Alpowa Summit, US Highway 12 rest stop
Elevation 2785 feet
The sun is just above the horizon when I arise, start the engine and continue my drive west on US 12. Somewhere in the crossing of the Snake River, I gained an hour in the time zone changing and when my alarm went off, it was five am, not six. When I finally do get up a half hour later and start the jammer, the clock on the GPS and my phone both read that it is five-thirty. Soon, I have crossed another high plateau, begin driving west on SH 26 and connect to IH 90 and continue west. At Ellensburg, Washington, I stop at a w-mart for WiFi, coffee and to reload my vending sale advertisement onto Craigslist hoping that they will sell during this stay.
Then to gas up the jammer and finally continue westward towards Whidbey Island and when approaching the bridge a cool wind blows into the window and I think "I have made it across the desert and arrived on the Island." I drive across the bridge and stop first at the city beach for a shower.
Afterwards, I greet the man who is parked next to me, who tells me that he is a Carnie and is traveling to Stanwood to meet up with the carnival but he had car trouble and stopped here to fix it. I then endeavor to witness to him by first asking him if he is a Bible reader but he says "No, I am an Atheist." Then, I ask him if he has heard about the last days, to which he says "Yes, I have been hearing about that for a long time." Then, I tell him that we are no longer in the last days and wait for his replay. He says, "Ok, that something new." Yes, I say, We are now in the last hours and soon, God will come with his Kingdom and make amends, doing away with all those that do not listen to his directions." I then tell him goodbye and drive to the d-mart to retire for the evening.
(Day 264 TB) 55°F. 6:00 am
Overnighting in a parking lot
Back in Oak Harbor hoping to sell my vending machine and product. I rise, drive to the w-mart and purchase coffee, then a second cup and pound on the keys for a time. Soon, I go for a haircut and then to do laundry.
After stopping at Island Grill for fish and salad, I drive back to the d-mart to read in my Bible and go to sleep early as the screaming gulls serenade me to sleep.
(Day 265 TB) 55°F. 5:30 am
Overnighting in a parking lot
Up before the sunglow, but that has become easy now that the sky is filled with fog. I drive to the w-mart for coffee and to work for a short time pounding keys. At eight this morning, I drive to the city beach, take a shower, dress for the ministry and then head for the hall. At nine, I meet with the friends, both the English and the Tagalong groups, and go out with the English brothers. After several hours, we head back to the hall, after which, I drive back to the w-mart for a couple more hours of pounding keys. Then, I go for the senior special at Island Grill, afterwards, drive to the d-mart, buy a second sun shade and block the rear left window just like I did the rear right one yesterday. After cutting it just a little bigger than the size of the window, I then push the edges behind the plastic window trim. It really blocks all light in the back at night, even in the d-mart parking lot. Soon, I will do the same for the rear tail gait window and both side windows.
Then this evening, I see another van drive in and park directly behind the jammer, a van that the older woman has already cut the same panels for all of the windows in her van. I comment about those panels and she says that she in not a very good pattern cutter. We talk for a short while and I begin witnessing to her and place a Bible Teach book with her. She comments about wanting to know the answer to the chapter "Where are the dead?" and tells me that she is looking forward to reading it. Finally, I shut down, eat some broccoli and then write my journal entry for today. There are quite a few overnighting in the park lot tonight. I am in the sack before the sunglow is done and the sky is mostly clear.
(Day 266 TB) 54°F. 5:30 am
Green Corn or Sturgeon Full Moon,
Overnighting in a parking lot
Even though it was mostly clear last night, the moon can not be seen because the fog is back this morning as are the screaming gulls. I drive next door to the w-mart, purchase my cup of hot and begin journal writing. Then, I work on my photo gallery for at time watching as outside, the day begins to illume. At eight am, I drive to the city beach for a shower, put on my ministry clothes and then head for the hall. Arriving at fifteen before nine, I set my shades, finish my Repast and add words to my journal while waiting for the friends to arrive.
During the meeting for the ministry, Kurt mentions to me that he needs to find someone to mow the lawn at the hall and I tell him "I will do it." He looks at me, smiles and replies "Really?" "Sure, why not?" and tell him that I will mow it after the ministry today. Four brothers then go out in the ministry and afterwards, I get out the mower, have no trouble starting it and then mow the lawn. Next, I get out the driveway vacuum and vacuum the leaves and pine needles from the parking lot. It all only takes me just over an hour, a piece of cake. Leaving the hall, I drive to a w-mart arriving by two this afternoon and begin pounding keys again. At four, I go to a Mexican restaurant for chips, salsa, and a seafood salad after which I drive to the d-mart and park for the evening. I work on the light shade panels a little longer and now have all the windows done except for the rear tail gait, which I have measured and will only take one panel to cover it. That is good because these panels are the carbon smoke colored panel which cost fourteen dollars each; two purchased, one to go. What do I have to complain about, just two more weeks and it is another pay day for me. Too, my pantry is fully stocked, I just had supper at a Mexican house and I talked to a couple of householders this morning in the ministry. Is there any thing else that I should want? I suppose I could take a nap, nope, didn′s happen because instead, I watched the JW.org monthly broadcast.
At nine pm, I drive to check my email, then upon returning to the d-mart see that Susanna did not leave for Seattle but stayed another night. She tells me that she read some of my "Blog" and found out about the shower at the city beach. Yes, the showers here in Oak Harbor are exceptional and I always enjoy them when coming to this harbor. Now, it is nine thirty pm and I must needs hit the sack.
(Day 267 TB) 56°F. 6:00 am
Overnighting in a parking lot
I sleep in until after the sunglow and then rise, drive to the w-mart for a cup of hot and to pound keys for a time. Then, as I am walking out to the jammer to drive to the city beach for a shower, I see Debbie and the girls drive by and smiling. They tell me that they have been in Colorado, Wyoming and other parts where it is hot and dry, that they have just got back here in Oak Harbor. We talk for a short time and Debbie invites me over Saturday afternoon for barbecue and I offer to bring my fruit cup. Then, I put on my ministry clothes and head to the hall.
Joe and I work together and we find several people who show an interest all on Summit avenue near the base. Then, I find a shady spot and melt into a nap because the temperature is so warm. At six, I go to the city beach, take another shower and put on my meeting clothes. Then, I head to the hall for the meeting.
Afterwards, I drive to the d-mart.
(Day 268 TB) 58°F. 5:50 am
Overnighting in a parking lot
I suspect that it will be another hot day but will go out in the ministry anyway. At eight-thirty, I leave the w-mart, put on my ministry clothes and drive to the hall for the meeting. I work with Bob and Joe and it is a hot day. Afterwards, I drive to the w-mart for the air conditioning and hang out there until I have exhausted myself pounding keys. Then, I leave, drive to Island Cafe and have breaded fish, baked potato and a salad. Then, I buy gas for the tank because I will need lots to keep the air conditioning running in the jammer.
At nine pm, it is still to hot to sleep and tomorrow it will not be any better but Sunday night, it is suppose to cool back down to the coastal cool that I know this place to be. Also, I have some sewing to do, to finish the rear curtain and will park my self some place in the shade to get it done. It is not until after ten pm when the cool arrives, at least enough for sleep. I have noticed that during the last few nights, the moon has been out, the sky has been clear both in the evening and in the mornings.
(Day 269 TB) 59°F. 6:30 am
Overnighting in a parking lot
I awake to the screaming sea gulls, get up to see that the moon is three hands above the western horizon and then drive to the w-mart for electricity, WiFi and cool. After two cups of coffee and more than an hour of pounding keys, I drive to the city beach for a hot shower. Then, I return to the jammer, put on my ministry clothes and head for the hall arriving at eight-fifty am. When driving into the parking lot at the hall and seeing not one other car, it suddenly occurs to me, Saturday ministry meetings are at nine-thirty am. So, I put up my window shades, get out my journal and write while waiting.
When the friends do begin to arrive, I go in and work with Dan and Joe for the morning. At noon, I stop, drive to the city park and prepare my fruit cup for the get together today at Debbie and Monte′s home. Debbie′s barbecue chicken is really taste but she admits that she uses store bought sauce.
Afterwards, Monte and I sit out front on the deck to talk, and finally, I leave to head back into town, park at the w-mart to check my com before heading to the d-mart for the evening.
(Day 279 TB) 55°F. 7:00 am
Overnighting in a parking lot
The cool is back but so is the fog and due to two warm nights with limited sleep, I sleep in later than my normal, rise and drive to the w-mart for coffee and a bagel. After my second cup, I drive to the city beach for a hot shower, then get dressed for the meeting, drive to the hall and wait for the doors to open.
Afterwards, I ask the Andy, his family and Cathy if they want to have lunch, to which they agree and we go the Island Grill, eat and then sit there along time just talking, telling a few jokes and generally having a good time. Then, I drive back to the w-mart, park, put up my sun shades and go inside for more pounding on the keys. Later, upon tiring of the key pounding, leave to find a place to park, eat a peanut butter and honey sandwich while pushing a needle through velcro. I work on sewing the final piece of velcro on the rear tail gate curtain which is hard to push through and break one needle in the process. However, I finally complete the sewing and hang the curtain over the now installed sun shades making all of the windows back of the driver′s seat now have smoke colored sun shades, cut to size and ducked taped in place and all of the sun shades also covered with a velcro fitted curtain. There is not light that is going to get into the back of the jammer now.
At six pm, I turn on a blues radio station enjoy some rhythms while adding the final entry to today′s journal. The sun is still one hand above the top of the trees, the sky is ninety-five percent blue and the temperature could not be any better and this is all while living on an island in the northwest. Even my sinuses are not there normal totally clogged but I am breathing a little better today.

Up early, get dressed and drive to the w-mart for my two cups and pounding keys. Then, I head to the city beach for a hot shower, after which I head to the hall for the ministry. I work with Monte and Bob and we work not at homes in several territories. At one home, I am able to place a Bible Teach book and tell Monte that he will need to make the return visit as I will be leaving before the weekend.
In the afternoon, I go with Bob and we set up the cart on the city beach board walk and stay for a couple of hours. After five hours in the ministry, I drive to the shop and find that my proof book has arrived, give one to Cheryl, pick up my vending product and then go back to the w-mart and lower my price on the vending machine. Finally, I drive to the d-mart, park and get ready for evening. In the sack by nine pm.
(Day 272 TB) 53°F. 6:30 am
Overnighting in a parking lot
I sleep late this morning, get up, drive to the w-mart and work on the final proof of episode one, updating the front matter in the book. At eight-thirty am, I put on my ministry clothes, drive to the hall and meet for the ministry. I work with David, Bob and Dan in a territory north out of the city limits and talk to a few people, one which I place a Bible Teach book with. After the ministry, I go to a new deli for a sandwich and meet the owner Michelle who I tell that her sandwich is the best in town. She asks me my name and I show her my card and tell her about my new book.
Then, I drive back to the w-mart and continue with the final updating of the book, writing a new synopsis on the front page for the series of seven episodes. Then, I upload all the new files to the on demand printer and submit them for review. The sun just set a little earlier and the w-mart has lock the doors but I sit outside to complete the uploading. Then, I drive to the d-mart for the evening.
(Day 273 TB) 55°F. 5:50 am
Overnighting in a parking lot
Awake and drive to the w-mart for coffee, a biscuit, and to check my com. Then at eight this morning, I drive to the city beach for a hot shower, put on my tie and head for the hall. After the ministry today, I am one day away from my goal for this month and hope to have my goal reached by the close of my ministry tomorrow.
After the work in the ministry, I drive to the REI in Bellingham to buy a new backpacking stove as I plan to give the old one to Richard along with the old cook pot set. This way, he has a good stove and cook pot as do I. Then, I drive back to Oak Harbor, stop at the w-mart and continue pounding on the keys, working on Quire Four. At sunset, I drive to the d-mart, park, and have to turn on the air conditioner to get comfortable for the evening. While the jammer is cooling off, I update today′s journal entry and one that is done, climb into the back to read my Bible.
(Day 274 TB) 58°F. 6:45 am
Overnighting in a parking lot
The sun is shinning bright when I open my eyes, I then put on my blues, start the jammer and drive to the w-mart for a cup of hot and a bagel. Then, I check my com and begin today′s journal entry. It has been eleven days since I arriving and my sinuses are totally congested; it began several days ago and now is constantly bothering me. I must needs leave this island soon and in fact plan to drive off of the island tomorrow morning after a cup of hot and a shower.
At eight this morning, I drive to the city beach for a shower, then to the hall for the ministry meeting and I work with Luella and Gertrude. I had made arrangement to go out with them today so that I can turn over two female calls I met last Thursday in the ministry and give one of the calls to each of the sisters. Then, at noon something, we go back to the hall just as Joe drives up and I go out with him for another hour so that I can achieve my goal for the month and to help him with the Ministry Assistant app which has not been able to make work.
I find the problem in the filters where he had the archived filter checked and it was only searching for interested ones in the archived area, where none existed. Once that was unchecked, all of the interested ones that he had been creating for several days show up, about twenty of them. Joe expresses to me that he is glad to have worked with me these past couple of weeks and I tell him that it is the same feeling that I have for being able to spend time with him. I also tell him that I see a lot of potential in him as a pioneer. We depart each other by saying to one another, "see ya tonight."
When he dropx me off at the hall, I go back to the w-mart and have a tall flat white while doing my study for this evening. At six thirty pm, I walk out to the jammer, put on my tie and head back to the hall for the meeting, the final one this visit on the island. Afterwards, I drive back to the d-mart for the evening.
(Day 275 TB) 57°F. 6:25 am
Overnighting in a parking lot
There is a bright sun at the horizon when I rise, then I put on my blues and drive to the w-mart for a cup of hot. Too, the sky is blue and the humidity is lower than normal as there is no dew on the jammer. I soon drive to city beach for one last shower before heading south and it is about nine this morning when leaving and decide to cross the bridge and take the route down IH 5. However, it does not take long to realize my choice is a mistake because even though the morning commute traffic is over, the weekend traffic makes the drive slow and slutry.
Still, I arrive at the bridge over the Columbia river by five pm and enter Warrenton, Oregon by six this evening. I drive right to the campground and immediately see a sign stating that the campground is full, so I turn around and drive back to the w-mart to pound keys until it closes at eight pm. I have begun working on Quire Five of my person journal, adding photos to the text like the previous four quires that I have completed.
When I leave the w-mart, I drive across the street to the d-mart and find a place to park among the many recreational vehicles, put up my front shades, climb into the back of the jammer and read in my Bible for a few chapters. Suddenly, it comes to me that my sinuses are now much clearer and methinks the reason is only because I have left that island rock with all the allergens there.

The Sojourn along the
Oregon Coast
|
|
|
(Day 277 TB) 50°F. 6:00 am
Fort Stevens State Park, space D-121, CSR: 7.0 (new rating)
With a huge walking event going on this weekend, the Hood to Coast relay, I have come to appreciate that this time of year makes the Oregon coast very crowded and no where close to the solitude I have always preferred, (which time would most likely be mid to late September.) But hopefully, when all the participants leave later today, it will be less crowded on the coast. However, next weekend is another holiday and suspect it will be equally as crowded; still, I am here so make the best of this sojourn I must.
I drive out of the campsite and head south on US 101 along a very familiar route and stop at the w-mart in Seaside, Oregon. After parking, I go inside for WiFi and to pound keys for the morning while waiting for the meeting which begins at one this afternoon.
At noon, I drive north out of Seaside to the hall, stop for the meeting and find a warm welcome from the friends. Also, I find out that the midweek meeting is Tuesday at seven-thirty pm, so after the meeting, I return to the state park and check in for two more days so as to be able to be here for the next meeting. I head for the campsite, take a shower and then fix my Repast for supper. When after the sun sets, I turn in for the evening.
(Day 278 TB) 53°F. 6:45 am
Fort Stevens State Park, space F-230, CRS: 7.0
Up to go to the restroom, then return to the jammer, pack out and drive to the brick bath house in loop E. After my shower, I drive to the w-mart in town and spend the day pounding keys. Today, I work on updating the campground rating system that I already have created, then upload it to the old website. I will create a new website page on another day. Then at six pm, I leave the w-mart and head back to the campsite to begin evening preparations.
After location the site, D111, I park, plug in the electric cord, then the batteries, and then head to the brick shower house for a hot shower. Some one tells me that the tile floors are even heated. After my second shower today, I climb into the jammer and play a few games of solitaire before finalizing my journal entry for today. Then, I read in my Bible for a few chapters and call it good for this day.
This constant key pounding over the last many months has been keeping me constantly busy. This is a good thing because methinks that it also keeps me out of trouble or from just being bored. Even with these poundings, I still have been keeping up with my ministry goal but I am not sure how my ministry will fare while I am working for Richard in southern California. Maybe I will be able to keep up my ministry goal, I hope so since this chapter is entitled, Upon Preaching the Good News. It is after eight now, so I will shut down and climb into the back.
(Day 279 TB) 55°F. 5:29 am
Fort Stevens State Park, space D-111, CRS: 7.0
Up before daystart, walk to the brick shower house and get under the hot water. Then, I pack out and drive to the w-mart for coffee and com. Later, I prepare a cup of daystart because all of the eating in restaurants has put ten pounds on and I must needs loose it again. One of the barista, Katlyn, greets me and asks my first name. After I tell her, she says that she already knows my last name, Brother Buras and then I realize that she is a sister in the Seaside congregation. We talk for a short while and then I go back to my key pounding.
At one pm, I leave, drive back to the campsite and work on cleaning the jammer, straighten and date the new supplies purchased recently, take a hot shower, study for the meeting tonight and then climb into the back for my nap. I set my alarm so that I do not oversleep and miss the meeting tonight. I awake at six something, dress for the meeting and then drive to Seaside.
Afterwards, I drive back to the campsite, plug in and then make today′s journal entry. Methinks that the weather here is just perfect, it has not rained, which is unusual for this part of the coast, and the temperature requires that I get into my sleeping bag to sleep. It is about ten thirty when I climb into the horizontal.
(Day 280 TB) 53°F. 6:30 am
Fort Stevens State Park, space D-111, CRS: 7.0
It begins to rain during the night and after sleeping in this morning, I pack out and drive to the w-mart in Seaside for a cup of coffee and check my com. I stay here to pound keys and sip on coffee until nine-thirty this morning before driving south on US 101 to the next campsite.
Upon returning to the road south, I stop briefly at the Tillamook creamery for two runs at the cheese sample bar and then resume the drive on US 101 into downtown Tillamook where I turn east on SH 131 and drive out to Cape Lookout arriving at about noon. I check in, drive to the campsite, plug in and then take a nap. Later, at eight pm, I walk to the amphitheater for a ranger lead presentations on identifying birds by sound. When walking back to the jammer, notice that the night sky is very clear and full of stars. Both the big dipper and Cassiopea help me to locate the north star. Finally, I work on my journal entry and read for a few chapters. Today has been very relaxing.

Upon awaking, I drive out of the campsite, continue south on on Three Capes Scenic Loop until it returns to US 101 where I continue south to Newport, Oregon. Then, I stop at South Beach state park to reserve a campsite, A-21 right next to the shower house, after which I return north to the w-mart in Newport for a day of key pounding. Also, I check the astronomical charts to check on the conjunction that is currently going on and find a lot of interesting information.
The most amazing event is the upcoming major astronomical event coming on 21 August 2017, which is a total solar Eclipse will occur across the North American continent in the states of Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, extreme NE Kansas, Missouri, Eastern Kentucky, Central Tennessee, extreme NE Georgia and South Carolina.
Thus, with this amazing event coming in the next year, I have added a new
section to the Nonpareils gallery page. At this location will be disclosed some of the astronomical event that will be upcoming in the near future.
Recently, I have been reflecting on the fact that I have just begun my eighth year living in the jammer, which in all indications is still running fine but one never know with a vehicle with over 300 thousand miles on the odometer and yes, my prayers continue for it to remain running for yet more miles. Whatever the outcome, what Jehovah provides for me in the future will always be appreciated.
At six pm, with rain coming down outside, I pack out of the w-mart and head for the campsite. Once I arrive, I sit in the jammer and have supper, a can of pinto beans and one of mixed vegetables. I buy a few cans for evenings like this, when it is raining but only buy those with no added salt; total salt tonight is 70 mg, which is really not bad at all. However, when it comes to canned food, salt less normally means taste less as well, so I put a heaping tablespoon of TWS in each can and mix it thoroughly before eating, which usually corrects the taste lack problem. After eating, I walk to the shower house which is less that fifty feet away, the rain still coming down, and get under the hot water, not warm water like was at Cape Lookout the previous night. Both come up with the same rating but I really like South Beach better so I created a new rating site feature, PF for Personal Favorite so that I can add an extra point for South Beach. At nine pm, I shut down for the evening.
(Day 282 TB) 53°F. 6:29 am
South Beach State Park, campsite A-21. CRS: 7
Up after the sunrise, the rain looks to be done for the time being, and I drive to the w-mart in Newport. Once I arrive, I purchase my cup of hot and begin pounding keys. Shortly before two pm, I have uploaded the new
CRS page and then return to working again on
Quire Five for the rest of the day.
At sunset, I leave the w-mart, drive north on US 101, stop at a f-mart for some bean burritos for my supper before stopping at the d-mart for the evening.
(Day 283 TB) 52°F. 6:30 am
Overnighting in a parking lot
Awake and wipe down the heavy dew on the jammer, which I do because it keeps the jammer free from road dirt and accumulated dust, besides, it keeps the jammer looking good and only takes a few minutes in the morning. Too, it is not every day that there is a free car wash on the jammer in the morning so I take advantage of it when it does happen. Then, I drive to the w-mart for a cup of hot and to warm up.
During the afternoon, a young woman come into the w-mart for the second time and sits at the table next to me. I comment that she has returned to the w-mart which starts a conversation. Soon, we are talking about my book and true religion, show her some particular pages and she asks to buy a copy. We exchange names and Donna tells me that she is coming for an interview for a job here. I wish her success and then shortly before sunset under a blue sky, I drive to the d-mart go in to buy groceries and when I come back find a note from Donna on the windshield saying thanks and wishing me success in my journeys.
Then, I chop green onions, add them to a package salad, add oil and vinegar and then enjoy my supper while playing solitaire. I also text Richard and he says that he is ready for me to begin work on his home in California. I tell him that I will be there mid-september. Shortly after eating and after putting away my kitchen, I climb into the back of the jammer and read more of the 119th Psalm before closing my eyes.
(Day 284 TB) 50°F. 6:15 am
Overnighting in a parking lot
Up to a clear blue sky but the dew point is below the temperature and the jammer is dripping wet. I wipe it down until my hands are cold and then drive to the w-mart for a cup of hot and to work on my journal entries for the last two days. Then at nine this morning, I walk out to the jammer to put on my meeting clothes and then drive south of town to the state park to check to see if possibly there is a campsite available. The ranger says, yes, we have one open, so I register and afterwards, head for the hall which is north of town. There are several of the friends that I recognize here in this congregation and what a wonderful study we have today. Part of the comments are about not desiring things and I devised a new though about mine. Keepsakes are possessions that anchor a person to the past and may even prevent that same person from reaching the future paradise.
After the meeting, I drive south back towards town and stop at the Yaquina Head lighthouse to take a few photos of the cormorants, a whale and the lighthouse, which the entire area is packed full of turkeys buying up all the junk souvenirs. Then I drive south through town, check into the campsite and set up in space C-41. Immediately, I cook my Repast and after eating, take a nap. When I awake from the nap, I walk to the shower house for a steamy hot shower and then back to the jammer to pound on the keys for a time.
Today, it has been noisy with campers, especially kids, and also the fog horn has been going all day here at the campsite. Then shortly after sunset, it becomes quite enough for me to hear the seals in the river channel which is about a half mile to the north. This campsite is replete with recreational vehicles loaded with weekend warriors at best, maybe even some goofers. At nine pm, I put the computer away, climb into the back and read in my Bible, more in the 119th Psalm.
(Day 285 TB) 47°F. 6:33 am
South Beach State Park, campsite C-41. CRS: 5
Arise, turn on the heater because the temperature is in the forties, step out, grab my cloth and begin wiping. Soon, Doug walks by, ask if I am leaving and if he can buy the wood by the firepit. I tell him yes, for a dollar and he goes to get his car. We talk while we load the wood into the back and I give him one of my business cards. Then I drive to the w-mart in town, walk in, buy a cup of hot, then update and upload my journal.
Later in the morning, I leave Newport and continue my drive south along the coast on US 101, stop at Umpqua Lighthouse state park near Reedsport, Oregon and check into site 43 in the campsite, a site which sits on a high bluff overlooking Lake Marie. I have camped in this state park before but have never knew that there is a lake here. I set up in the site, walk to the shower house and take a somewhat hot shower. Methinks that because the water is neither steamy hot nor tepid warm, I must needs make a determination in my campsite rating system. So, now I have a MS shower rating, MS for medium hot shower and Umpqua state park shower is the first to receive this rating. When I return to the jammer, the stellar jays arrive squawking for me to give them some food. I put out a couple of the grapes that I am eating and the grapes are gone in no time.
Then, I take a short nap and upon waking, I make a smoothie for supper, climb inside and pound keys while I eat. When the sun sets, I continue working on the computer, making upgrades to the appendix of my book. When I arrive in southern California and receive the latest proof copies, I will soon after release the book for sales on Amazon.
(Day 286 TB) 51°F. 6:59 am
Upmqua State Park, campsite 43, CRS: 6
Upon arising, I grab my towel, shower bag and head for the shower house for one more soak before heading south again. Yes, the water here is not steamy hot, nor is it tepid. I pack out and then drive out of the park and head south on US 101 but only a short distance to Coos Bay, Oregon and stop at the w-mart and to upload my journal entry.
Then at just after noon, I head out on US 101 south again all the way to Brookings, Oregon and check into the Harris Beach State park. All that is left is the d-loop which proves to be right next to US 101 and the road noise is terrible. This really shot down the rating for this park.
As the sun begins to set, I walk to the brick shower house and take a hot shower.
(Day 287 TB) 51°F. 6:00 am
Harris Beach State Park, campsite D-19, CSR: 5
Up at the first bell, get dressed and drive into town for coffee but the Wifi just does not seem to want to work, so I pack out and head south on US 101 into California to continue my path south. But before I continue to far south, I turn north on US 199 back into Grants Pass, Oregon, connect to IH 5 south to Ashland, Oregon and then east on SH 66 and make my first stop at Tub Springs where I check the Ph of the spring water and find it to be 5.5 which is quite acidic.
Rick had also stopped for water and we talk while I test the water. I tell him that I have been drinking here for many years but now that I have found out that it is acidic, I will no longer drink the water here. I continue east on SH 66 through Klamath Falls, turn south on SR 39, gas up in Merril, Oregon. Then I cross into California, drive south to Lava Beds National Monument arriving at four pm, check in at Indian Wells Campsite in space B13 and set up for the evening. The campground looks to be nearly full, still I get a site near to the toilet. At five, what looks like a youth group arrives back from spelunking and all noise breaks loose. It is warm here on the inland side of the Cascade mountains, most likely in the low eighties but I suspect it will get cool enough for me to sleep well.

Awake, make a cup of hot, pack out and drive slowly out of the campsite. My eyes catch Michael′s and we greet each other. I ask him what kind of youth group are you working with to which he answers "A church school. I hope we were not to loud last night." I then tell him that no, you were not and that I enjoyed the singing. I tell him a little about the focus of my web site and offer my card which he takes and tells me that he will take a look at it. I drive to the visitors center to ask about the road closure and meet Janna again cleaning the restrooms. I comment that I have seen her before and she shows me her ten year pin. I head out of the park, stop briefly at the petroglyph site to take some photos and briefly talk with a woman there. Then I connect to SR 139 and head south to Susanville, where I buy a couple of burritos and continue south on US 395 past several completely dried up lakes and arrive in Reno, Nevada by three pm.
I stop first at a g-mart to purchase sprouted mung beans, Maine sea weed and other items I am out of. Then, I drive to the nearby w-mart, upload web pages and check to find a hall to attend the meeting, which is at seven tonight.
(Day 289 TB) 65°F. 7:59 am
Overnighting in a parking lot
It was a warm night last night and evidently kept me awake until late. Upon arising, I search for the w-mart that I had seen nearby yesterday and soon I am inside sipping on a cup of blonde from a pot, which, unless you get a pour-over, is getting to be a rare item these days. Yes, most of these w-marts only do a pour-over if you want a blonde. Usually, I do not want a pour-over and choose the medium roast (Pike Place) for my morning brew. That is of course, unless I can get a cup of Cafe du Monde, which methinks is the best.
At noon, after updating all web pages that have had recent changes, I pack out and head south on US 395 out of Reno, gas up in Gardnerville, NV and then head south into California to Manzanar.
The drive continues until after sunset and I drive a short ways past Manzanar to the Alabama Hills Recreation Area on the Whitney Portal road. Arrive after dark, I stop at the entrance turn out and park for the night. It is really warm and must needs leave my windows open to let the light breeze in. I step out of the jammer to look at the night sky and immediately notice the Milky Way but it is nowhere near as bright as it was at the Lava Beds campsite. I also read the information sign and learn that there is a campsite, Lone Pine campground, six mile into the recreation area but I choose not to drive there after dark. It is almost eleven pm when I finally get horizontal.
(Day 290 TB) 65°F. 6:30 am
Alabama Hills Recreation Area
Upon arising, I step out of the jammer, open the tailgate and use my bottled water to wash my hair, face and upper body. Then, I drive into town, stop at the f-mart for coffee. After filling my Yeti cup, I drive north on US 395 to Manzanar, park and while waiting for the site to open, work on my journal.
At nine, I walk into the visitors center, up to the ranger desk and wait in turn to talk with a ranger. Soon, Mike greets me and I ask "Was anyone born here during detention?" Mike replies immediately, yes over five hundred during the four years the detention center was in operation. In fact, here is a sheet of statistics listing how many each year. My only reply was "Wow, and thank you." I go into the display room and begin to read the displays.
Later, I go to the back of the room and begin looking through the rooster of detendees of which there is 251 pages. After several hours of searching the rooster, I go back to the ranger desk and ask about some who were transferred to Hunt, Idaho and Heart Mountain. The ranger told me that Hunt, Idaho is Minidoka detention camp, one which I have previously been to. Also, Heart Mountain is another detention camp that is restored by a private organization and is in Wyoming.
Mike then goes online to the national archives and looks up the names of the families that I am interested in. He also gives me a print out of how to access the archives. I thank him for his help and then walk back to the rosters to recheck my information. Afterwards, I walk out to the jammer, take a tour around the camp and stop a only a few places for photos. Then, at about three pm, I drive back to highway and return to my drive south on US 395. I stop briefly at the Eastern Sierra visitors center and then head south.
After several hours, I gas up at Kramers Junction, which is where SH 58 crosses US 395 and then continue south to Victorville, where I take a couple of back roads to connect to SH 18 and head east to Apple Valley, Lucern Valley and then up onto the back side of the San Bernardino Mountains. As it driver higher and higher, I feel the air cooling off and arrive at Big Bear Lake at nine pm.
Upon arriving in Big Bear Lake, I drive to the w-mart and see that the bank building next to it is still empty so I drive down the street and find a place to park for the night. I really like the cool here and will sleep well tonight. Still, I do not get horizontal until after ten pm.
(Day 291 TB) 54°F. 6:00 am
Overnighting in a parking lot
Up at early sunglow, put on my blues and drive to the w-mart for coffee, check my com and upload my latest journal entry. Once all the key pounding work is done, then I begin my study for today, Why we must Keep on the Watch. At nine this morning, I walk out to the jammer, put on my suit and then drive to the hall across the street for the meeting.
It is a fine thing for a wayfarer to return to visit good friends and really enjoy my visit here in Big Bear Congregation. Afterwards, I return to the w-mart for a round of pounding keys. Then at four pm, I pack out and head for the Outback. Just before, I send a text to Richard and he text me back saying that he and Kim are shopping and will be back later. I tell them that I am going to the w-mart and will see them tonight. At sunset, he lets me know that he is heading home and will be there soon, so I tell him, see ya soon. I pack out and head back to the Outback, drive into the recreational vehicle space, park and then Richard comes out to greet me and we go to sit in the pagoda and talk; later Kim comes out to say hello. After I ask about my box, he retrieves it from the shed, I open it and hand him a copy of Episode One, tell him to read the first two pages of print. While he does that, I go to the jammer and get the pot set and stove that I have for his emergency bag.
When he finishes reading the two pages I explain to him how I have changed the web site. He gives me a couple of suggestions which I think are good ones. Then we continue to talk about the work that we will be doing. Finally, he leaves to go in for the evening and I ready for my evening.

Overnighting in The Outback
Awake, set outside, begin boiling water for coffee and see Kim leaving for the ministry. I walk to the house, knock and Richard says come in. He is boiling water for his tea. I a short while, I go back out to the jammer to check the water, find it boiling, so make a cup of hot and then a cup of daystart. Soon, Richard and I are both driving to Hemet and go the the rental that I will be staying at and working on.
Upon arriving, he introduces me to the neighbors on either side and Jim on the south side is a Vietnam veteran as myself. Then, we go inside the trailer which is an older double wide and we discuss the tasks at hand; some painting, repairs, a lot of cleaning and a couple upgrades. Later, I ride with Richard and Jeanie to the hw-mart to buy a shower surround, then return to the rental and while Richard and Jeanie go for a walk, I prepare my Repast. As I am finishing the meal, Richard returns home, puts Jeanie in the truck and then comes inside. Shortly before he returned, I had retrieved from the jammer, a clean cup and fork to share my meal. As he walks in, I ask him if he would like a cup of Repast and he says Ok.
He sits down and begins eating, and I ask him if he can tell me what the ingredients are to which he names about half of them. I tell him what else is in it and he replys "This is really good, and healthy," I then respond, "So you like it." We finish eating, then he packs out and as he heads for home. as I wash the dishes and set up for the evening in the jammer.
(Day 293 TB) 51°F. 6:29 am
Overnighting at Palm Avenue Rental
Awake, set the GPS and drive to the w-mart for coffee, pound keys and then upload my journal entries. I also check for the location of the local congregation, d-mart, bank and find locations all less than a mile from the rental. At nine this morning, I pack out and head back to the rental and while waiting for Richard to arrive, I work on the back door lock which one I have never seen before. I take it apart, clean it, lubricate the parts and put it back together and get it to word right again. This ability to disassembly and reassemble all started when I was just a boy as I would take every thing apart to see how it worked and then put it back together.
After it was completed, Richard shows up and he asks me to start working on taking off the door to the shower stall while he goes up on top to continue painting the exterior. About two pm, we both take a break for something to eat and I have my daystart.
We have already purchased the new surround and once I get the door removed, I try the new corner piece and find that there is much old material that must needs be removed, so I continue cutting, chipping and scraping the old surround until the two corner pieces finally fit. After that is done, I clean up, put the tools away and walk outside to watch the sunset. Then, Richard leaves to buy paint and a couple other items while I begin my supper which is very much like what I cooked last night only I added a chopped up beet to the boiling pot. Too, like last night, I use sesame oil for taste and as always put in my spices.
After eating, I take a bath as the shower stall is not available yet and then wash a few of my nylons and soon after, Richard arrives back to put the paint in the shed while I sit on the front porch in the cool night air. After he leaves, I retire to the jammer and write today′s journal entry.

Up at the second bell, drive to the w-mart for coffee and when parking feel the tire roll over something. Upon looking see that it is a wallet, pick it up and take it inside to the barista. Then, I go set up my computer, plug in, and return to the line with my Yeti cup for coffee. The barista fills the cup, tells me that the person who lost the wallet just called and my coffee is free. Returning to my office, I begin pounding keys and sipping my coffee.
Then, as the hour approaches nine, I return to work on the Palm Avenue rental. As I had told Richard I would do, I start working on painting the front window awning. He had told me that he could not disassemble the awning and that I could paint them in place. I bring the ladder to the front, climb up, look at the awning and find all of the metal slats covered in dust. So, the first thing that must needs be done is clean them. I fill a bucket of, grab my scouring pad, climb the ladder and begin cleaning but it is hard to get all of the areas. While cleaning the slats, I am able to remove the slats, so I begin cleaning them removed but then I realize, since the awning is now disassembled, I should set up a place to finish the cleaning and then paint the parts. That is what I do and begin a day long job of first cleaning, then painting all the parts of both the front awning and the bathroom awning that Richard previously took apart.
At noon, Rita stops by to say hello. Rita is Richards tenant who lives in the rental on Johnston Street and when I am done working on this rental, she will be moving into to this one, Richard′s Palm Avenue rental. During our conversation, I am able to witness to her again, showing scriptures to answer her questions. When she leaves, I resume work and finish the painting at about the time the sun sets. I pick up the tools, put away the paint and go inside and eat my Repast leftover from last night. Then, I clean the dishes and take a bath, after which, I retire to the jammer by eight pm and write my journal entry for today. After shutting down the computer, I climb into the back and read more in the book of Psalms, then sleep.

Up to a bright sun shining above the horizon, boil water for coffee and then continue working on the shower surround. After reading the instruction a second time, I see that I need a level so I drive to the d-mart, which is less than two miles west of here and purchase one for six dollars. I also get some fruit, water, onions, and other food items. Upon arriving back at the rental, I finish installing the awning hardware and then install the awning slats and I notice that they will need a final touch up. Finally, I go inside and work on the shower surround.
At five pm, having completed one of the three walls, measured and marked the remaining two walls, I stop, get dressed for the meeting and then drive eight blocks east. I find out that the congregation that I much needs attend meets on Tuesday evening at seven pm and Sunday at four pm. Afterwards, I return to my temporary home make a skillet of Teriyaki chicken and rice from a prepared package. After eating, I decide that I will not buy that meal again. The I retire to the jammer and sleep.

Awake to the cockcrow, don my work blues, walk inside to the rental and put a pot of water on to boil. While I wait for the water, I clean one window and the kitchen light fixture. Then I make a cup coffee and one of tea and sip coffee while writing this morning′s journal entry. Going outside, I paint the shutters the same accent color as the awning, which is called Fire Roasted. While the shutters dry, I return to the kitchen an continue cleaning the cabinets. When Richard wrote clean the cabinets on his list, I assume he means also to clean the range, range hood, range vent and counter tops. Well, they are done now. At four pm, I take a break for some water and to add to my journal.
Then I return to the currently white tool shed and proceed to paint it green. I start by brushing the raised ribs, then I roll the flat areas, finishing it by six forty-five pm. There is enough paint left over in the paint can to begin the second shed. After cleaning and putting everything away, the sun having already set, I next drive to the d-mart to purchase a small jar of wood filler to use on the shelving that I am putting back together, leaving home by seven pm. After returning home, I prepare a supper of chili-mac, the ingredients just purchased and then eat while playing solitaire.
My legs and feet pain me tremendously, so I forego washing the dishes and head for the jammer to get horizontal.

Awake first at five-fifty am but being overly tired, I opt to return to sleep. Later, the sunlight wakes me and there is a soft chirping from a soft bird somewhere nearby, the first bird that I have heard hear, well except for the crows. I put a pot of water on to boil and soon I am sipping coffee while eating a banana. At eight, I put on my work shoes and begin work painting the trim color on the tool shed and finish shortly after ten this morning. Then I hook up the hose and wash the drive way, first using a alkaline degreaser to remove the oil that has leaked from my transmission. (I crawled under the jammer yesterday evening and tightened the pan bolts again, which their loosening seems to be a common occurrence the last year or so.) After removing all the grease, I hose off the back of the drive way pushing all the dirt to about the middle. Then I use the push broom to move the water forward towards the street which scrubs and remaining dirt and move it all to the street.
At noon, I go inside and have fruit and water, then after, eating I wash the jammer. Upon resuming work, I go inside and put together the cabinet for next to the front door and then I see Richard arrive. He has come to work for the afternoon and we both stop at six pm when I begin cooking my Repast. Just as I put in the onions, I smell meat on the grill and look out the south window and see Jim cooking on his grill. I greet him to which he responds in kind and when done with the Repast, grab a cup and walk over to talk with him. He invites me in and we sit at his board to eat during which we discuss Bible topics. Later, when he has to take a call, I return to the jammer to get my Bible and we are able to compare words until nearly eleven pm.
I then return to the rental and pack out to the jammer, climb in and must needs turn on the engine to run the air conditioner. While the jammer is cooling off, I complete today&prie;s journal entry.
(Day 298 TB) 67°F. 7:22 am
Overnighting at Palm Avenue Rental
Today is my day off from work, choosing to go to the w-mart to keep cool and rest my toilworn body. Richard has gone to a circuit assembly today but my going there is out of the question because of the throes that persist in my bones and muscles from the last week of work, pain that would make sitting in a auditorium for long hours near impossible. At three pm, I leave the w-mart, return to the jammer to get dressed for the meeting and then head to the hall.
Upon arriving at the hall, I am greeted warmly and enjoy the meeting despite a irritated right eye that occurred earlier. Afterwards, I go to the d-mart to shop for some more fruit and such. Then, I return home, cook supper, and then get into the jammer. It has been so hot today that I have had to run the air conditioner all day, even tonight trying to cool it off enough to be able to sleep.
I wait now for the cool but I suspect it will not come soon, so I grab my pillow, go inside the rental, turn on the swamp cooler and lay down directly in the path of cool air. This works and I am able to sleep but wake up later with the need to cover myself, so I walk outside to the jammer and grab my sleeping bag and return to this temporary sleep birth. At three am, I arise again this time due to not sleeping well away for my regular birth, go outside and find the air cool enough to return to the jammer and do so, spending the remaining hours of sleep in the jammer.

Overnighting at Palm Avenue Rental
After a really hot night, I arise walk into the rental and put on a pot of water to boil, then make a cup of hot to sip while eating a banana and pound keys to write my journal entry.
Then at eight am, I begin working on the shower surround, first cutting the back wall to size and then installing it. Richard still has not brought me a drill bit to cut holes for the faucets which has a diameter of 1¼ inches. After gluing the old wall and need to wait for the glue to set, I continue work cleaning the kitchen cabinets. I complete all the uppers and even paint the inside in the one above the stove. I know Richard did not tell me to do any painting on the cabinets but after I have cleaned the inside and it dries, now it the perfect time to paint the ugly brown a nice white. At noon, I stop for lunch and make a fruit smoothie with kale and broccoli.
At five pm, I take my next break to have some peanut butter and crackers after which, I continue on the kitchen cabinets, cleaning, then rubbing on the staining restorer and finally, screw on all the handles. It is almost seven-thirty pm when I call it and then take a bath. After getting clean, I drive to the w-mart to upload my journal entry, then to the sub sandwich shop for supper. Finally, back home to crash for the evening.
(Day 300 TB) 65°F. 6:00 am
Overnighting at Palm Avenue Rental
After another hot night, I awake go inside to get my shoes and then head for coffee and try to connect to the w-mart but for some reason, it is not working so I reboot to correct the problem. Having not brought my battery brick, I can not stay for very long so, I check my email, reply to a couple and then head back to the rental to begin working. Starting this morning with cleaning the aluminum door trim and threshold to the shower and then wait for it to dry so I can silicone around the edges, after which begin installing the door parts. While waiting on the drying, I take apart the oven to clean it, a very old OKeefe and Merritt gas.
Richard arrives at two-thirty pm with the saw and begins to cut the line that I have drawn on the shower stall wall and I finish the window that I am working on and then have a fruit smoothie from the batch I made yesterday. When he finishes the cutting, he goes up on the roof to clean and prep for sealing. I go into the bathroom and continue with the shower surround, first cutting the next piece, drilling the hole for the faucets and then spread the glue on the wall. Once this wall piece is installed, I begin preparing the final wall, the one opposite the door. I have to chisel out strips of the painted glossy board so that the glue can stick to something. At five-thirty pm, Richard leaves because he has a meeting tonight and after I pack away the tools, I tool begin getting cleaned up for my meeting tonight.
Then suddenly, the sun comes out from behind the clouds, lights up the inside of the rental with the rain still coming down here and immediately methinks, this is the perfect circumstances for a rainbow, possibly a double. I go outside, walk to the back of the rental and see the start of some color in the sky. With the sun now close to the horizon, any rainbow will be large and high in the sky, so I grab my camera and wait to see a full double rainbow form and become very bright. I take several photo and when leaving for the meeting, take some from across the street.

Then, I drive to the hall and my legs throb all during the meeting after which I drive home and get horizontal before ten pm.
