The Quest for The Simplicity Go Down go back
THE SECRET TO SUCCESS on this journey is for the wayfarer "to be well versed by his mentor simplicity as this one is to help evaluate the true worth of each and every one of his possessions." Thus says Tommy Michel during his search for life′s meaning in Episode One: The Journey to Katahdin.
But what is this mentor Simplicity, that Tommy speaks of? And why would a wayfarer need to evaluate the true worth of all of his possessions.
First, Tommy′s mentor is a personification of his desire to receive invaluable life lessons obtained from his steps walking upon the path, both the physical one on the Appalachian Trail as well as the spiritual one of reading God′s Word daily.
  A Wayƒarer in Texas
Tommy helps us to understand that in his journal when he wrote, Methinks, this is because the nefarious world in which we live is mercilessly adept at taking us away for the simple, from the solitude, and especially from God′s solitude.
Further, Tommy lets us know that from his everyday reading of God′s Word, he has come to appreciate that each step he takes, must be "guided by need and directed by simplicity so as to enable me to attain my quest, the finding the brotherhood" of God′s earthly organization.

Life with Simplicity
When Tommy was taking time off of the mountain near the shore of Lake Champlain, he was there writing by candlelight and was waxing poetic of the early beginning of the dayspring, he said, "I read by candlelight before the day′s new light begins to surge into morning; there is already a warmth in the air and I give a sigh as this provides myself hope of a blessing from above. Looking up from my Bible, I see in the distance there are pinpoint lights emanating out from the within the shadow that are the mountains on the opposite shore. The lake reflects these lights across the full length of its mirror like surface. Overhead, the night sky is beginning to illuminate and then suddenly bursts into color while the water′s surface captures the ever changing scene.
"Upon returning to read my Bible, in 1st Timothy, chapter six, verse seven, makes myself think that simplicity existed back then for them too. Paul wrote, For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. Verily, these words have proven true for me whilst dwelling upon the mountain."

Onward to the Paradise
Tommy′s understanding of Simplicity is something that I now find crucial in my walking upon the life journey, especially that journey that would lead all of God′s people to the soon to come promised paradise. (Psalms 37:10, 11, 29)
