In the order Asterales, the Aster, or Daisy family (family Asteraceae) alone, according to several botanical authorities, is considered to be the largest family in the plant kingdom, which family has sixteen sub-families, over 1,900 genera and more than 32,000 species.
The daisy family includes artichoke, asteroideae, asters, basket-flower, blanketflower, bellis, billygoat weed, black-eyed Susan, black jack, calendula, chamomile, chicory, cocklebur, coneflowers, chrysanthemums, chocolate cosmos, cirsium, dahlia, cosmos, crepis, daisies, dandelions, edelweise, endive, fleabane, gazania, German chamomile, goldenrod, hawkweed, jerusalem artichoke, knapweed, lettuce, marigold, mayweed, milk thistle, mugworts, oxeye daisy, ragwords, saffllower, solidago, stevia, sunflowers, tarragon, tickseed, wormwood, yarrow, zinnias, and so many more that they can not possibly be listed here.
Known as the flora of the Southeastern United States, the flowers of the family of Asteraceae are characterized by their composite flower heads and a small, dry, one-seeded fruit that doesn′t split open at maturity and develops from a single ovary with seeds tightly enclosed by a thin, hard fruit wall called a pericarp..
