Phylum Bryophyta

The Bryophyta, Class Level Gallery Index Go Down Go Up
Bryophya is a group of land plants (embryophytes), which is a taxonomic division (Phylum Brophyta), that contains three groups of non-vascular land plants: the liverworts, hornworts, and mosses. Known as bryophytes, the organisms within this taxonomic division are characteristically limited in size and prefer moist habitats although some species can survive in drier environments.
This phylum Bryophyta consists of about 24,000 seperate species and are considered an important foundation plant for the forest ecosystem by covering the forest floor and prevent erosion.

Bryophyta Characteristics
1. Non-Vascular: organisms do not have channels carrying fluids.
2. Spore Producing: organisms which are spore producing.
3. Non-flowering: organisms that do not produce flowers.

Bryophyta Information:
The Bryophyta phylum consist of non-vascular land plants which means that they do not have conducting tissues. These plants are small, close to the ground, non flowering, reproduce by spores, and grow in the dirt or on other plants.
Bryophytes produce enclosed reproductive structures (gametangia and sporangia), but they do not produce flowers or seeds. They reproduce sexually by spores and asexually by fragmentation or the production of gemmae.
Bryophyta Phulum is divided into three classes.
