Range
Primarily in Texas and only along the Gulf Coast and inland along the Rio Grange River. May be seen in extreme southwest Louisiana, and may be seen in extreme south Arizona.
This cormorant is found in most of Mexico, Cuba, Jamacia, Central America, South America and Falkland Islands
Habitat
Found in fresh and brackish water, often accompanying anhinga or double crested cormorant.
Description
Smaller than both the anhinga and double crested cormorant. This cormorant has a slender bill and neck but does not have a head bulge visible during flight.
Dull yellowish throat pouch angled sharply at base of the bill and bordered in white. In the early summer, there are short white neck plumes. Unlike double crested cormorant, does not have stipe of bare yellow on lores. Long tail than double crested cormorant.
The immature are browner, particularly on under side parts.
