The upland water birds, as the name suggest are birds who make their home away from the salt water shore line and therefore live, fish and can be seen in the back water marshes, ponds, rivers and streams.
Due to being unlike other water birds, the upland birds either plunge dive for fish from a perch over water, or probes along mountain cold water streams.
Upland water birds: kingfishers and dippers.
The kingfishers perch near to quite water and plunge dive for fish, sometimes from a hover.
The dipper is a a mountain stream bird that can completely submerge to feed on aquatic life underwater and even emerge some distance from where he entered the water.
