Genus: Fregata, Species: Magnificens, L 40 inches

Habitat

Description

Numerous in South Florida and seen also in other places along the Gulf Coast, they are often hard to see because it often soars offshore. Offshore storms cause them to head for shore and make this the best time to see these bird. More common on the coasts of Mexico.
This bird uses it′s bill to snatch fish from the water surface but will often chase other smaller birds to steal their catch.

The 2010 Journey, Magnificent Frigatebird Go Down Go Up
Tuesday, 02 February 2010, Punta de Mita, NA, Mexico.
(Day 972 BR) 65°F. rain
Overnighting in a roadside park
It was a rough night for me in this warm humid climate and the rain does not stop with the rising sun. It has been raining now ever since we finished planting the grass in Jocotepec and I plan to leave the coast today seeking the higher and cooler altitudes inland hoping that the rain will stop also. However, a couple that I have met suggests that I drive to San Blas, Nayarit. So I will drive north along the coast before I turn east for the mountains. First before leaving Puenta Mita, I drive to the beach, find a nice restaurant and buy something for breakfast
After breakfast, I drive up the coast, drive around the area and see some birds that I have never seen before: crested cacique and a magnificent frigitbird.
