The Ozark Trail, a Missouri 430 mile State Footpath Go Down Go Up
The Ozark Trail Information
Description:
The Ozark Trail (OT) is a hiking and backpacking trail, with some sections serving also as a biking and/or equestrian trail. The OT is currently under construction in the Missouri Ozark Mountains located within parts of three of the states five ecoregions. The OT trail system consists of mostly linked sections which traverse the backcountry area of eastern and southeaster Missouri, a region of the state which features ancient mountains, forest thicket region as well as unspoiled riverways, which include the Current and Jacks Fork rivers.
This trail is said to be moderate to challenging depending entirely which section is being journeyed upon. The sections include:
Description:
The OT is currently composed of about fourteen sections (totalling about 430 miles), some completed but most still being constructed. Most are joined to other sections but there still remain gaps between some sections. The sections vary in length with the longest contiguous length between Onondaga Cave State Park (near the village of Leasburg) to the Eleven Point River. The exact routes for incomplete sections have not been established, so the exact total length of the OT remains undetermined. However, when the trail has been completed, it is expected to be about 500 miles (805 kilometers) and when joined with the Ozark Highlands Trail in Arkansas (currently at 254 miles), their combined when finished is expected to be well over 750 miles (1200 kilometers)
