The Ouachita Information
This is the longest trail in the Ouachita National Forest spanning 192 miles east-west across its length, through the two state area of Arkansas and Oklahoma, within the Ouachita National Forest lands.
Description:
The western terminus is at Talimena State Park on Highway 271 near Talihina, Oklahoma. The eastern terminus is south of Perryville, Arkansas on Highway 9.
There is an additional 32 miles of trail extending from the eastern terminus outside of the national forest, which is located on private and other public lands, to Pinnacle Mountain State Park, 15 miles west of Little Rock, Arkansas.
Elevations range from 600 to 2,600 feet as the trail passes through forested mountains of the Interior Highlands Region, across sweeping valleys and alongside or near to clearrunning streams. From the Ouachita Trail, there are several spur trails which connect to various recreation areas and points of interest. Also, there are numerous road crossings and access points which provide opportunities for several different shorter hikes from one point to another.
