The full moon in September is the full moon corresponding to the time for harvesting corn and is also called the Barley Moon because it is time to harvest and thresh the ripened barley. This full moon is bright enough it allow finishing all of the harvest chores after the sunset.

The Harvest Moon is the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox. The fall equinox is a celestial event that occurs each year between the 22nd and 23rd of September. The Harvest moon can occur in either September or October and depends upon when the full moon occurs at this time of the year.

When the sun sets, I get my camera out and sit down on a chair at the end of the driveway awaiting the moon to rise. Soon, I see a slight glow above the horizon and think, Right on time! I take some nice photos of the Harvest Moon rising and of Jupiter with the Galilean moons.

The next evening, I again set out a chair to photograph the moon.
