THE BOVIDS
The Domestic Cattle

The Bovine Go Down Go Back
The genus Bos is a group of both wild and domestic Bovidae made up of large to very large grazers, including large animals of great economic significance to humans such as domestic cattle, domestic buffalo, and the Yak. This tribe also includes their smaller Asian relatives, the large free-roaming African buffalo.
Animals of of the Bos genus are referred to as bovine, or cattle, and this gallery will mostly deal with the somewhat wild species of this genus in North America.
The Genus Bos includes: Bali Cattle-Banteng (bos javanicus); Domestic Cattle (bos primigenus) with two subspecies Taurine (b.p.taurus) and Zebu (b.p.indicus); Gaur-Indian Bison (bos gaurus); Gayal-Domesticated Gaur (bos frontalis); Kouprey (bos sauveli); Wild Yak (bos mutus); Domesticated Yak (bos grunniens)

Domestic Cattle
Family: Bovidae, Subfamily: Bovinae, Genus: Bos, Species: primigenus
One of the breeds of domestic cattle that has always been a favorite to me is the Longhorn cattle.

The 2013 Journey, Domestic Cattle Go Down Go Up
(Day 210 JO) 70°F. 7:00 am, clear
While traveling through east Texas to visit the Big Thicket national preserve, I was to come upon a couple of Texas Longhorns and stopped for a photo.
The Bovids
The Longhorn
Another location that I have been to where there are more longhorns is southwest Oklahoma at the Wichata National Wildlife Preserve. However, I was not able to acquire any photos on that visit. I want to return to Doris campground and when there to try again.
