The Birds of Prey
Eagles, falcons, hawks, kites, ospreys and vultures are all raptors, also called birds of prey. Eagles, falcons, hawks, kites and osprey hunt on the wing. Vultures are carrion eaters.
Swallows and swifts are also aerialists which hunt insects. Hummingbirds are the most acrobatic flyers of all the aerialists but their world is centered on flowers.
There are five orders represented by the birds of prey: Accipitriformes, Apodiformes, Cathartiformes, Falconiformes, and Passeriformes.
These orders include birds in the following families: Acipitridae (raptors and kites), Pandionidae (osprey), Apodidae (swifts), Trochilidae (hummingbirds), Catharidae (carrion), Falconidae (falcons) and Hirundinidae (swallows).
