The Commelinales order contains the Commelininds, which are a group of flowering plants within the higher taxonomy level called Monocotyledona, (or just monocots) and are distinguished by having cell walls containing ferulic acid.
The Commelininds, also know as commelinid monocots, form one of three groupings within the monocots, the other two being the alismatid monocots and the lilioid monocots. Currently, there are five known families within the commelininds.
