Range
Numerous in all the continent to Alaska. Winters along the bottom of the lower states and higher latitudes in the east.
Habitat
Abundant on lawns and meadows at forest edges and mountain meadows. Travels in small flocks during migration and winter.
Description
Rufous crown in summer with white eyebrow, black eyeline extending to black bill. Face and cwon duller in winter, especially first winter when bill is dull pink.
Gray cheeks, white under parts and gray rump.
Juvenile holds breast streaks until late fall.
