Range
Numerous to abundant in nearly all of the continent, except for the southern extreme areas. Winters are spent across the US in the lower latitudes of their range and breeding and summer are in all but the extreme northern areas of Canada.
Habitat
Winters in small flocks, often mixed in open woodlands. Feeds on the ground hopping about searching for exposed seed and insects at forest edges and clearings.
Description
Dark on face, chest, back, wings and center of tail with white under parts. Has flashing tail feathers when it flies
