The Barred Owl
(m3an-chb-lano-064ba-barred-owl) Barred Owl

Range
The barred owl is found year round in all of the eastern half of the US, as well in the northwest areas of the US, but not along the West coast.
The barred owl is also found in all of lower portions of Canada but not in the Pacific coastal region

Habitat
The barred owl is numerous in mature deciduous woodlands, but especially in southern swamplands.
In the West, the barred owl is found in western conifer forest which it shares with the spotted owls, often displacing the spotted owls or even crossbreeding with them.
This owl frequents the interior of the forest and is a perch and drop hunter like the spotted owl, but is easily flushed.

Description
A large bird with a large round head and dark eyes. The body is gray-brown with wide barred collar and streaking on the belly.
The call of the barred owl can be immitated by hooting the words, Who cooks for you? or Who cooks for you too? Their hoot are usually given in whole but sometimes in part.
