After wintering in the Texas Rio Grande Valley and camping a couple of times at Falcon State Park, I choose to begin my Journey On™ when the temperature becomes too hot for me to sleep comfortably at night. The day that I choose is 14 February 2026, and do not leave until after stopping first at the local w-burger for my breakfast. When I finished eating, I returned to the jammer and drive south on Ed Carey Drive to the interstate highway and then turned north on IH 69E heading for North Padre Island some 150 miles up the coast of Texas.
This next stop, just north of and outside of Padre Island National Seashore is far enough away from the megalopolis that Corpus Christi, Texas has become. However, on this Journey, I notice that this small bastion of solitude is quickly becoming a thing of the past. While overnighting near Packery Point, I am able to acquire several photos to the sunglow at various times, at both ends of the daylight. After ten days at the wayside, I the resume my drive northeast up the coast, stopping next at Goose Island State Park and although I was not able to overnight in the campground, I was able to get into some hot water before returning to the northbound roadpath.
Next on my growing list of stops is Port Lavaca where there is a free campground with a shower (even though this shower has only cold water) there is also a location to spend the heat of the day inside and air conditioned cafe and sip on a cup of hot. While here for another ten day, I make a reservation at a state park for two days at an electric-water campsite, which when I do so should return my RV battery back to a full charge.
