THE ANASAZI CULTURE
Colorado: Canyon of the Ancients Ruins
The Anasazi Culture, Canyon of the Ancients Ruins Go Down Go Up
Canyon of the Ancients visitors center is located near Dolores, Colorado and is called the Anasazi Heritage Center. Nearby the center are the Dominguez and Escalante ruins. The Dominguez ruins are right in front of the center and the Escalante is a short walk up to the top of the hill behind the center.
Also in the monument is Lowery ruins. The Great Kiva at Lowry Pueblo is considered one of the northern most Great Houses connected to Chaco Canyon in the region. This is one of the sites that is stabilized for visitors and it includes interpretive trail and picnic opportunities.
This monument encompasses 176,000 acres of federal land administered by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).
