Historical Wayside: Talbot Campsite
In 1849, Lieutenant Theodore Talbot was sent by the US government to explore the Yaquina Bay area and he noted in his journal that he found only about 85 native tribal people living in this area and commented that the population was probably decimated by disease introduced by trappers and explorers or by forest fires. During his exploration of the Oregon coast, he camped near this site.
