Information:
The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge which spans the one mile wide Golden Gate strait that connects the Pacific Ocean to the San Francisco Bay. The structure links the city of San Francisco, California from the northern tip of the San Francisco Peninsula across the straight to Marin County. It was initially designed by engineer Joseph Strauss in 1917 and is named for the Golden Gate strait, the channel that it spans.
The bridge also carries pedestrian and bicycle traffic and is designated as part of US Bicycle Route 95. This bridge has been declared one of the Wonders of the Modern World by the American Society of Civil Engineers and is one of the most internationally recognized symbols of San Francisco and California.
At the time of its opening in 1937, it was both the longest and the tallest suspension bridge in the world. It is possibly the most beautiful, and definitely the most photographed bridge in the world.
