The New Harbor Bridge
Today a new Harbor Bridge has been constructed and is now open for traffic, after the ribbon cutting ceremony which was held on 28 June 2025. The new bridge is one of the largest cable-stayed bridges in North America, spanning 1661 feet across the Corpus Christi ship channel. The bridge will provide over 200 feet of clearance above the water, allowing even larger ships to enter the port of Corpus Christi.
The new bridge will carry six lanes of traffic and will have a combined pedestrian and bike path. The expected life of this new cable-stayed bridge is 170 years, which show last until 2195 CE.

The 1926 Journey, Bascule Bridge Go Down Go Up
Opening in 1926, The Bascule Bridge was an iconic movable draw-bridge that served the Port of Corpus Christi from 1926 for over 3 decades before being replaced and dismantled after the new Harbor Bridge opened in 1959. Although the Bascule Bridge allowed ships into the harbor, this bridge was known for creating traffic jams.
The Bascule Bridge was too small as soon as it opened, the 90-foot wide opening was a tight squeeze for the cargo ships entering the port. Several accidents occurred during the bridge′s service, in one case the bridge was in the up position for more than 10 days forcing traffic to take a massive detour around the city.
Still, the Bascule Bridge was a significant piece of local history and is now part of the nostalgia surrounding the city′s waterfront, much like the recent demolition of its successor, the old Harbor Bridge in in October 2025.
