The West Coast Scenic Route Information
Before you get started on this drive, take note that the entire route can be driven without stopping in less than 24 hours, however, on this route, there are so many vista stops, so much culture, and so much to take in, so plan to take several at least a week on this roadpath.
Too, because of the normal mild weather than is common on the coast of California, this drive the Pacific Coast Highway can be done any time of year. Still, the best weather is expected from late spring through fall, with the busiest travel season in July and August.

Roadpath History:
US highway 101 was built first and then ten years later the Pacific Coast Highway (SH 1) was built. The two intertwine in many locations but both follow the westernmost reaches of the state of California.
The legendary Pacific Coast Highway (SH1) was first started in the early 1930s and completed by 1936. This highway is a marvel of human effort, a highway that clings to the rugged and beautiful coastal mountains for over 900 miles. It is one of the most astoundingly scenic roads in the world, meant to be traveled slowly, while gasping at the mountains, towering trees, expansive beaches and endless sunsets above the western horizon.
It also provides travelers an unparalleled opportunity to take part of what California has to offer: amazing coastline views, farm fresh food, local wine, pioneer outposts, roadside art objects, surfing villages, the socially unconventional artistic subcultures and even access to the Hollywood glamour and night life.

The California Coast Photo Gallery
Like, the other west coast states, I desire to make this gallery easier to view, so I have divide it into five areas:
Redwood Coast:
The Redwood Coast includes the coastline from the Oregon State line southward to the center of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Highway One Coast:
The North Highway One Coast begins at the center of the Golden Gate Bridge and continues southward to Monterey, California.

South Coast:
The South Coast begins at the intersection of US 101 and SH 1 in San Luis Obispo, California and continues south to to Friendship Park in San Diego at the US-Mexico border.
