The Roadpath Information
Description:
The northernmost section of the Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway in California has both an Eastern half and a Western half, which roadpath can be driven in one long circular route or on several driving tours.
The Eastern half goes through Tulelake, the Lava Beds National Monument, then along Mount Hoffman and Medicine Lake Volcano and then south through the Klamath National Forest on Forest Service roads, traversing a distance of 91.8 miles and arriving at the junction of SH 89 at coordinates 14 41.2527269, -121.8240370.
The Western half travels south on US 97 south to Weed, connects with IH 5 and continues south past Mt Shasta, California where it then turns east on SH 89 towards McCloud, Californial and soon after arrives at the gravel road coming down from Medicine Lake at the end of the eastern section, traversing a distance of 91.2 milles and arriving at the same location on SH 89 as the eastern half.
From this junction on SH 89, the two stay together on SH89 until a short way after passing Hat Creek, California. The western section turn right on SH 44, goes through Old Station and then enters the Lasen Volcano National Park and later departs out the south entrance and connects with SH 36. The VLSB-W turns east on SH 36 and continues south to Lake Alamanor in Plumas National Forest
