Mount Hood National Forest
Timberline Lodge is a four story mountain lodge and resort hotel on the south side of Mount Hood in Clackamas County, Oregon, about 60 miles east of Portland. Constructed from 1936 to 1938 by the Works Progress Administration, it was built and furnished by local artisans during the Great Depression. Timberline Lodge was dedicated on 28 September 1937 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
The lodge is publicly owned, privately operated, serves as a ski resort and popular tourist attraction which draws more than two million visitors each year. The lodge is accessible through the Mount Hood Scenic Byway.
