Crater Lake Lodge was built to provide overnight accommodations for visitors to Crater Lake National Park in southern Oregon. The lodge is located on the southwest rim of the Crater Lake caldera overlooking the lake 1,000 feet below.

The Crater Lake Caldera is the remains of Mount Mazama, a mountain which was part of the Cascade Volcanic Arc and which mountain collapsed into the caldera following a major eruption approximately 7,700 years ago.

Crater Lake was established as a national park on 22 May 1902 when President Theodore Roosevelt signed the bill which made Crater Lake the sixth national park for this country. The lodge was built and then opened in 1915. Then, in 1922, the lodge received a two year project to double the number of guest rooms, add private bathrooms in the new wing.

Then, in the 1930s, the CCC built Rim Village adjacent to the lodge and installed hundreds of indigenous trees to landscape areas around the lodge. From this point forward, the lodge was operated by a commercial company which did little to upgrade the structure beyond basic maintenance.

In 1967, with the building continuing to deteriorate due to lake of funds, the National Park Service acquired the Crater Lake Lodge and scheduled it to be demolish, and this despite it being listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Then, due to public opposition, in 1988, the National Park Servive approved a plan to rebuild the lodge.

The reopening was scheduled in 1989 but structural engineers advised against it because, as they said, the Great Hall was unsafe. The lodge was closed and was not completed until the fall of 1994 after a total cost of $15 million. The lodge was then reopened to the public on 20 May 1995 and was operated by Xanterra Parks and Resorts until 2018, when Aramark took over lodge operations.

Today, there are 71 rooms, each with modern comfort and privacy. The Great Hall has been completely restored, the dining room overlooks the lake, serving northwest cuisine. An exhibit room just off the lobby provides information about the history of the lodge, Crater Lake, and the park. The lodge is open from late-May to mid-October.
