Information:
The Pinto Creek Arch bridge was designed by Ralph Hoffmanm, built by Fisher Contracting Company and was completed in 1949. Also, in 1949, the Pinto Creek Arch bridge received the American Institute Steel Construction Annual Award of Merit for the Class II, Most Beautiful Steel Bridge and a plaque was installed on a monument that was built on the site to commemorate the award.
In September 2018, a DOT inspection report of the arch bridge gave the bridge a poor rating (26.8 out of 100), after which, it was slated for replacement and demolition.
In October 2019, after the existing Pinto Creek bridge had been in place for just over seventy year and serving the area on US 60 across Pinto Creek far below, construction on a new bridge began, which new bridge construction was to take about two years to complete, after which the old bridge would be demolished.
The Arizona Department of Transportation began the 22.7 million dollar bridge replacement project, constructing the new bridge just feet away from traffic that continued using the existing arch bridge. Then on the night of Sunday, 12 September 2021, work crews closed U.S. Highway 60 between Superior and Miami for an around-the-clock operation to realign the roadway to the new bridge.
Then, on Friday, 17 September 2021, the replacement concrete beam bridge for the Pinto Creek arch bridge was opened for public use.
Finally, on 27 October 2021, the arch bridge was imploded.
