The Asbestos Abatement from the Old Hall   (Go to journal entry) Go Down Go Up
At eight this morning, the asbestos abatement crew arrive and after I open the Hall, they begin to set up. Mark shows up and we go together inside to talk to the crew. They ask for some documents and Mark says that he will go back to his shop to get them. I go with Mark and we return some time after.

Overnighting on the Hall property
Awake before six and to the sound of complete quite and full daylight. I immediately drive off site and head home so as to take a hot shower, put on fresh clothes, put in a load in the washer and then head back to the Hall.
I drive in and park my van right by the flower bed and take my position at the gate. Soon, several begin arriving, first Roger, his family and others.

Awake before six and to the sound of complete quite and full daylight. I immediately drive off site and head home so as to take a hot shower, put on fresh clothes, put in a load in the washer and then head back to the Hall.
A steady flow of trucks and cars begin to arrive. Standing by the entrance, I ask each if they have a hard hat and a badge to which everyone says yes. Then, I send them to the parking spaces assigned for the workers.

Clearing the Property Line
Earlier, when the 120 excavator was first dropped off at the hall, the first work that the operator did was to begin the process of clearing the west fence line.
After the area was leveled, sand was added and compacted, which process requires a lot of hands on shovel work by the brothers.

Overnighting in the garage
On Tuesday, I go to the hardware store to purchase a length of chain and a dozen copies of the key for the old shed lock to use to lock the gate at the Hall.
This morning I open the gates at seven-thirty and wait for the contractors to arrive and begin working on the fence. I suspect that they will only set the poles today and come back another day to hang the chain link. At eight-thirty am, a crew of two workers arrive with a Bobcat tractor on a trailer.

A Clear Fence Line
Upon setting up for work, I am sure the fence contractors appreciate all the work done to clear and level the fence line. There is still much work left in that the large piles of debris still have to be hauled to the dump.

Next Step, Concrete
The contractors make a call for concrete and at noon, the truck arrives, fills the 175 bucket and then the contractors begin working the mud into holes while leveling the posts.

Hanging the Horizontal Poles
Today, the contractors will first install the horizontal poles. After that, they will string the rolled fencing. When they arrive just after ten this morning, they unload the rolled fencing they brought with them and then begin working on the horizontal poles.

Returning to Continue the Work
The contractors do not come back until Tuesday, 15 May to resume their fence work, but today do complete the two fence sections, the one section on the west side and the second section of the south side of the property.

The Small Gap
at the Southeast Corner
(m7-wa-cons-oakharbor-2012-0515.1253) The Southeast Corner will have a Small Gap
This will leave a small gap in the southeast corner which will be strung with the orange plastic fencing until the temporary fence contractor arrives to closes up the remaining open sections of the property.
At a future date, the same fence contractors will come back to close up the southeast corner by building a fence along the east side of the property. However, before that can happen, the brothers will have to clear the east side of the property by removing the several trees as well as the old barb-wire and wood fencing.
Returning the next day, I take photos of the two runs of completed fence.

Counting the wood fence on the north side property line, we now have three side of the hall property fenced. Also, we have a gate across the driveway. The temporary fence contractor is supposed to arrive early tomorrow morning which will completely surround the hall with fencing.
