The White Pass Scenic Byway

The White Pass Scenic Byway Washington Go Down Go Up
White Pass, elevation 4500 feet is a mountain pass in the Cascasde Mountains of Washington and is about 25 miles southeast of the summit of Mount Rainier, the highest mountain in the state. The pass is about 30 miles north of Mount Adams.
The White Pass Scenic Byway is a mountainous drive in the Cascade Mountains of Washington and traverses 120 miles of US 12 between Mossyrock, Washington and Naches, Washington.
This byway offers striking views throughout its entire length as it passes through the Gifford Pinchot and Wenatchee National Forests. The White Pass Scenic Byway winds through the deep greens of mixed coniferous forests and the eye-catching colors of meadows ablaze with wildflowers. Shining lakes, rumbling rivers, and cascading waterfalls accompany nearly the entire trip. The surrounding mountain landscape can be seen on the trip, especially at the many turnouts and overlooks, allowing the driver to catch their breath and take a good look at the striking wilderness through which the route passes. The western end of this byway is at exit 68 of IH 5 south of Chehalis, Washington and continues for about 123 miles eastward to Naches, Washington.
Along the way, the byway passes its namesake, the 4,500-foot White Pass. The byway also offers excellent fishing and boating in the numerous lakes along its path. The byway passes closely to the southernmost tip of Mt. Rainier National Park, home of Mt. Ranier, and gives travelers a glimpse of the beautiful dormant volcano and its fantastic surroundings.
