Almost without variation, upon arriving at the sign inscribed with the words SUMMIT, the temperature will drop sharply, sometimes ten to twenty degrees from what it was on the side of the mountain. This is due to the high winds that pass over the top of the mountain, but also because it is the highest elevation.

If you plan on staying long on the peak, be sure to have packed some extra layers of outer clothing, such as a good wind breaker with a hood.
