Born of French ancestry, both of Thom′s parents, his father Aubrey and his mother Maybelle grew up in New Orleans, in the area of General Pershing Street, Louisiana where they came to know one another, dated and after courting they are married in the home of the brides parents.

An invitation from 1942 states:

This couple was to later become my Mom and Dad.

After Aubrey graduated from Tulane University, he then began searching for a position in his new profession, chemical engineer, with one of the many chemical refineries found throughout the Gulf Coast States. It did not take long before he received a job offer from Phillips Petroleum Co. in Borger, Texas.

So, Aubrey and Maybelle pack their belongings, loaded their two sons into the car, Thom who has just been born and his four year old brother Aubrey Frederic Buras the third and drove out of New Orleans westward into Texas.

Some time later, this family of four arrive in Borger, Texas where they continue the next episode of their family life.

Too, unbeknownst to Thom because he is still before the age of episodic memories, he is to experienced his first winter snow.
