The Old Cattle Drive Trail
Datil Well is one of 15 water wells along the Magdalena Livestock Driveway that was established in the 1800s and stretched 120 miles from Springerville, AZ, to Magdalena, NM.
This campground is managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

The Amenities
Onsite:
The recreation area includes 3 miles of hiking trails in piƱon-juniper and ponderosa pine woodlands, with scenic views of the San Augustin Plains and an occasional glimpse of wildlife.
The campground sits right where the prairie valley meets the mountains.

Nearby:
To the east is the Magdelena and the VLA (very large array). To the west are the Sawtooth Mountains and Pie Town, a pleasant community with an interesting history which specializes in selling a slice of pie.
The whole area is absolutely beautiful.

The 2020 Journey, Datil Well Campground
Upon my arrival on Monday, 20 April, 2020, I find the campsite closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So, I continue on my way westward on US 60 to locate a location with WiFi.
