Episode Two, Journey to L′Acadie by Indigo Breaux
03 September 1978, Bar Harbor, Maine.
THE MOST RUGGED of all coastlines I have visited, I find this is a place of wonderment. I arrived here in Bar Harbor, Maine yesterday and found a temporary place to doff my pack to allow me to explore this town.
Having just completed the Appalachian Trail and completely out of supplies, I look for a hiatus, one that will afford me both work and lodging for the next couple of months to give me time to replenish my sustenance, necessities and reserves.
At one local restaurant on the town square, I talk with the owner who tells me that the restaurant is in need of someone to work the dishwashing station. When I accept the position, he asks "When can you start?" My reply is "How about right now" and he tells me that he had hoped that I would say that.

05 September 1978, Bar Harbor, Maine.
Having today off, I walk thru town, stop in a book store and look for a map of Mount Desert Island. I find one showing not only the roads, but all of the many of trails in and throughout the national park.
Each day hence that I have off from my job, I plan to rise early, pack my day pack and head into the national park to explore, endeavoring to walk as many of these foot paths as possible during my stay here this fall on the island.
