The Step, Supplements
Step Five is Supplements
Some time back, while listening to a public radio station, I heard the radio host say that one of the US Presidents stated that the American farm land is now depleted of all nutrients. When the radio host was asked which President made that statement, the host said that it was Franklin Roosevelt shortly after he was elected in 1932.
Methinks, if it the nutrients were depleted in the nineteen thirties, then how much more so are the nutrients absent in the foods grown now.
Too, it was then that I gave serious consideration for finding what would be the best vitamins and minerals to take, quality supplements that actually help increase nutrition intake.
Which Supplements are Best?
Dietary supplements include everything from vitamins, minerals, herbs, spices and oils.
Probably the important consideration is to provide your body with the widest range of supplements so as to get a good balance of proper nutrition.
After a person decides to begin taking supplements, often like everything else, supplements have a unending display of available products. So to help make the correct decision, first, we need to break down this subject into manageable choices.
When you choose supplements, you will need to choose,
first, the form of container,
second, the type and content of ingredients and
finally the type of retailer/supplier.
To find help with these choices, please select the above blue link Step.

The Anti-inflammatory
Anti-inflammatory refers to the property of a substance that reduces inflammation.
There are several ways that we may acquire anti-inflammatory products which include through (1) drugs, (2) foods, and (3) supplements.

The Antioxidants
An antioxidant is a substance (or type of bioactive compound) that removes potentially damaging oxidizing agents in a living organism.
While antioxidants can not be categorized as a group, to be Vitamins nor Minerals nor Enzymes nor Proteins, antioxidants themselves can be sorted into categories.

The Bioactive Compounds
Bioactive compounds are phytochemicals substances found in foods that are capable of modulating metabolic processes which results in the promotion of better health. The health benefits of each bioactive compound varies greatly in foods those that are most abundant do not necessarily result in the best health benefits.
One thing that is certain, bioactive compounds do have a positive effect on the health of a living organism, both tissue and cells.
In the field of nutrition bioactive compounds are distinguished from essential nutrients. While nutrients are essential to the sustainability of a body, the bioactive compounds are not essential since the body can function properly without them, or because nutrients fulfill the same function.

The Enzymes
An enzyme is a substance in a living organism that acts as a catalyst to bring about a specific biochemical reaction.
The most basic understanding of an Enzymes is that they are a substance used by a cell to carry out chemical reactions very quickly, which in turn allows the cell to build or disassemble things as needed. This is how a cell grows and reproduces.
Looking at it simplistically, a cell is really a little bag full of chemical reactions that are made possible by enzymes!

The Essential Nutrients
An essential nutrient is a nutrient required for normal physiological function that cannot be synthesized by the body, and which must be obtained from a dietary source.
Apart from water, which is universally required for the maintenance of homeostasis, essential nutrients are indispensable for the metabolic processes of cells, as well as the proper physiological functions of tissues and organs.
In the case of humans, there are nine amino acids, two fatty acids, thirteen vitamins and fifteen minerals that are considered essential nutrients.

The Essential Oils
The Use of the Word Essential
An essential oil is a concentrated hydrophobic liquid containing volatile aroma compounds from plants. An oil is essential in the sense that it contains the essence of the plant fragrance which is the characteristic fragrance of the plant from which it is derived.
The term essential used here is not the definition which means indispensable as with the terms essential nutrients which are so called since they are required for continued existence of a given living organism.

The Fiber
Fiber refers to a diverse group of carbohydrates that humans can not digest, instead they pass through most of the digestive system unchanged. The recommended intake of fiber is 38 grams for men and 25 for women, but most people eat only have that from 15-17 grams per day.
Fiber is mostly found in plant food, including fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains, nuts, seeds, and more
From gut bacteria to weight loss, it is often considered a fundamental part of a healthy diet. Most people have a very basic understanding of fiber, and tend to lump it all into one category.

The Phytonutrients
Fight Free Radical Damage
The prefix phyto is of Greek origin and means plant, and it is used because phytonutrients are obtained only from plants.
Phytonutrients are plant compounds like carotenoids, lycopene, resveratrol and phytosterols that are thought to have health-protecting qualities. They are found in plants such as fruits, vegetables and tea. Phytochemicals are best taken in by eating the foods that contain them rather than taking the supplements or pills.
Phytonutrients are the basis for more than 40 percent of medications today and have become a great resource of treatment of a wide range of diseases such as pulmonary and cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity and cancer.
Classes of Phytonutrients
Phytochemicals are a large group of plant-derived compounds hypothesized to help in disease protection and acquired by a diet high in fruits, vegetable, spouted beans, sprouted grains and plant based tea.
Medicinal Plants include plants such as aloe vera and arnica oil which also work as an anti-inflammatory.
Herbs and Spices. Herbs are fresh from the plant and spices have been dried from the leaves of the plant. Numerous herbs and spices have therapeutic properties including: the natural diuretic properties of dandelion tea; the stimulant for the central nervous system found in black peper; and the anti-obesity properties in cardamom (elettaria cardamomun).

The Prebiotics
Food for Probiotics
Prebiotics are food ingredients that induce the growth or activity of beneficial microorganisms, especially what is commonly call gut bacteria and fungi such as Bifidobacteria and Lactobacilli.
Prebiotics are typically non-digestible fiber compounds that selectively promote the growth of the beneficial large intestinal bacteria associated with health and well being.
Bacterial breakdown, a process of fermentation of prebiotics yields gases and short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), which feed bacteria themselves and colonic lining cells. Some of SCFAs are absorbed and provide some energy.
Types of prebiotics include: Inulin and fructo-oligosaccrides.

The Probiotics
Live Gut Bacteria
Probiotics are live microorganizms that promote a healthy digestive system. Our bodies are full of bacteria, both good and bad. Probiotics are often called good or helpful bacteria because they help keep your gut healthy. You can find probiotics in supplements and some foods, like yogurt. Doctors often suggest them to help with digestive problems.
Although there are numerous claimed benefits by the commercial food production industry for using probiotic products, such as reducing gastrointestinal discomfort, improving immune health, relieving constipation, or avoiding the common cold, such claims are not supported by scientific evidence and are prohibited as deceptive advertising in the United States.

The Spiritual Supplements
Meet Together With Christ′s Brothers
The united body of Christ′s true brothers is composed of many congregations, some even in physically isolated locations. The entire body of these ones, however isolated, constitutes the entire association of brothers is designated by the Greek expression adelphotes. (brotherhood or brethren in the KJV) (1 Peter 2:17 , 5:9)
To remain faithful, a Christian must associate with other Christians, both within their home congregation as well at other special gatherings of this true brotherhood. Just like in the days of Moses and in other times when God had congregations of peoples, the faithful and discreet slave 1 has made provisions for larger gatherings of Christ′s brothers
The Calling Together of God′s People
The Hebrew word migra means a calling together found at Numbers 10:2 is used in bearing out it basic meaning of convening the different camps of Israel together, in this case so that they can continue on their journey.
At other times appointed by Jehovah, all the Israelites were called to meet together for holy conventions. These assemblies included: (1) every Sabbath; (2) the first and seventh days of the Festival of Unfermented Cakes; (3) the first and seventh days of the Festival of Weeks (Pentecost); (4) the first and tenth days of the month of Tishri (Day of Attonement); (5) the first day of and the day after the Festival of Booth.
On all these occasions, the people were to do no normal daily work but be gathered together for spiritual benefits of worship and instruction. They were edified by the public reading and explanation of God′s written Word. (Acts 15:21)
Throngs assembling at the temple during the annual festivals experienced great delight and spiritual benefit, as at the Passover celebration of in the time of King Hezekiah, when there was great rejoicing in Jerusalem. (2 Chronicles 30:26)
Today is No Different
Each year, the faithful and discrete slave has made arrangements for large meetings throughout the the world. These meeting are today called by the names regional conventions, circuit assemblies and other special meetings.
Yes, each summer, at venues all over the world, the people of God today are gathered together at large arenas, convention centers, stadiums, and other locations to listen and learn from talks provided by the faithful and discrete slave, the slave appointed by Jesus for the sole purpose to provide spiritual food at the proper time.
And how timely are these provisions, which actually come from Jehovah, especially now since we are living in the final part of the last days that Jesus told his disciples would come to a wicked and idolatrous generation.
Paul fittingly urged all the brotherhood not to forsake regular assemblies of the people of God in his words to first century Hebrew Christians (Hebrews 10:24 , 25)
Be Called Together by God
Therefore, make it a point to meet with the people of God today, especially at the calling together to the large assemblies.

1
As an important part of the composite sign indicating the time of the last days (Matthew 24:3) Jesus told his disciples that he would appoint a single group, (servant, singular Greek noun doulos) to provide meat in due season for all of his disciples. (Matthew 24:45) The Greek word for meat is trofay and means nourishment, often used in the Bible to mean spiritual food. The Greek work for due season is kaheeros and literally means at the proper time. So, from these verses, we see that in the last days, Jesus will appoint one group (slave) to be the provider of spiritual food for the entire brotherhood of true Christians.
