The Life Journey Step Five, Supplements
Some time back, while listening to a public radio station, I heard the radio host say that one US Presidents stated that the American farm land is now depleted of all nutrients. When the radio host was asked which President made that statement, the host said that it was Franklin Roosevelt shortly after he was elected in 1932.
Methinks, if it the nutrients were depleted in the nineteen thirties, then how much more so are the nutrients absent in the foods grown now.
Furthermore, it was at that time when I gave serious consideration for finding what would be the best vitamins and minerals to take, quality supplements that actually help increase my nutritional intake.
Which Supplements are Best?
Dietary supplements include everything from vitamins, minerals, herbs, spices and oils.
Probably the important consideration is to provide your body with the widest range of supplements so as to get a good balance of proper nutrition.
After a person decides to begin taking supplements, often like everything else, supplements have a unending display of available products. So to help make the correct decision, first, we need to break down this subject into manageable choices.
What to consider before Choosing.
When you choose supplements, you will need to choose,
first, the form of container which holds the supplement,
second, the type and content of ingredients and
finally the type of retailer/supplier.

To find help with these choices, please select the blue link directly above.

The Types of Supplements
Anti-inflammatory refers to the property of a substance that reduces inflammation.

An antioxidant is a substance (or type of bioactive compound) that removes potentially damaging oxidizing agents in a living organism.

Bioactive compounds are phytochemicals substances found in foods that are capable of modulating metabolic processes which results in the promotion of better health.

An enzyme is a substance in a living organism that acts as a catalyst to bring about a specific biochemical reaction. A simplistic understanding is that a cell is really a little bag full of chemical reactions that are made possible by enzymes.

An essential nutrient is a nutrient required for normal physiological function, however, which nutrient cannot be synthesized by the body, and thus must be obtained from a dietary source.

An essential oil is a concentrated hydrophobic liquid containing volatile aroma compounds from plants. An oil is essential only in the sense that it contains the essence of the plant fragrance which is the characteristic fragrance of the plant from which it is derived. Thus, essential in this sense does not mean indispensable as with the term above, essential nutrients.

The Fiber
Fiber refers to a diverse group of carbohydrates that humans can not digest, instead they pass through most of the digestive system unchanged. Still, from gut bacteria to weight loss, it is often considered a fundamental part of a healthy diet.

Phytonutrients are plant compounds like carotenoids, lycopene, resveratrol and phytosterols that are thought to have health-protecting qualities.

Prebiotics are food ingredients that induce the growth or activity of beneficial microorganisms, especially what is commonly call gut bacteria and fungi such as Bifidobacteria and Lactobacilli.

Probiotics are live microorganizms that promote a healthy digestive system. Our bodies are full of bacteria, both good and bad. Probiotics are often called good or helpful bacteria because they help keep your gut healthy.

The united body of Christ′s true brothers is composed of many congregations, some even in physically isolated locations. The entire body of these ones, however isolated, constitutes the entire association of brothers. (Greek: adelphotes noun. 1. brotherhood, brethren. 2. fraternity.) (1 Peter 2:17, 5:9)
