The Healing Quality of Thyme
Thyme (Thymus vulgaris)
Thyme is both a delicious tasting herb and one with therapeutic properties shown to have many health benefits including strengthening your immune system and also benefit your cardiovascular, respiratory and nervous systems.
Thyme has been used in traditions medicine, is packed with antioxidants, and has a lot of nutritional content including high levels of vitamins and minerals. Thyme contains vitamins A, C, E, K and minerals: calcium, iron, phosphorus, and potassium.
Adding thyme to your food by sprinkling the herb on your food when cooking not only provide the benefits of the herb but also helps food spoilage and contamination. (See The Wayfarer′s Spice Mix recipe.)
Curing Yeast and Fungal Infections
Yeast and fungal infections can be treated effectively because two compounds in thyme, thymol and carvacrol both have fungicidal properties.
Thyme essential oil helps to eliminate the Candida albicans yeast that often infects the gastrointestinal tract. Studies have shown that thyme oil is as effective as tea tree oil in destroying yeast infections.
Remove vaginal yeast infections. Add 3 drops of thyme oil to a tablespoon of liquefied virgin coconut oil and soak a tampon in the thyme remedy and insert into your vagina for one hour once a day. This also helps reduce candidiasis.
Mold Remover and Preventer
Mold in the hone is a main cause of allergies, asthma, lung infections and blocked airways. Use thyme essential oil as a disinfectant helps to destroy mold spores in your home.
To make an anti-mold spray using thyme essential oil, add 25 drops of thyme oil to a 16 ounce spray bottle containing white vinegar or a 3 percent hydrogen peroxide.
Spray liberally on walls and any surface appearing to have mold and leave for twenty minutes. Wipe with a damp cloth to remove the spores and kill the mold. The damp cloth can also be dipped in a bucket containing 10 drops of tea tree oil in a half gallon of warm water.
To prevent mold from returning, use a few drops of thyme oil in a diffuser and allow to remain for an hour. Repeat monthly as desired.
Anti Cancer Properties
The powerful compounds in thyme have shown to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors in laboratory tests. Research has shown that thyme essential oil has strong anti-cancer potential in treating prostate, breast and lung cancers.
Even though more research is necessary before understanding how to use thyme essential oil to treat cancer in humans, we can know that there are many beneficial properties yet to be found.
Using this herb to improve the flavor of food and gain added health benefits is well founded. However, to use thyme for its medicinal benefits require additional knowledge before proceeding.
Plants in the family Lamiaceae, such as thyme, rosemary, oregano, and basil all have proven to result in allergic reactions to some people.
Thyme could also interfere with blood-clotting medication and and may cause excessive bleeding after surgery. Thyme should not be consumed for two to four weeks before any planned surgery.
Thyme can have an estrogen like effect, so women at risk of hormone sensitive conditions should avoid taking thyme medicinally. These conditions include breast cancer, endometriosis, ovarian and uterine cancer.

Also, use the tea to gargle to cure a sore throat, apply the cooled tea leaves to the skin to heal infections.
